May 2009 will be the 9th anniversary of Calabash Literary Festival
... and the line-up is awesome, such as Nadine Gordimer, and 2008 pulitzer prize winner Junot Diaz.

But -
Calabash has been cancelled.
Not enough funds have been raised this year to be able to put this "free" festival on.

Every house and hotel room is already booked in Treasure Beach and its surrounding area,
and many have paid for airline tickets to come and experience three rare days of literary bliss.

This is my appeal to you, 300 friends of Calabash.
As time is running out, you have only 3 days to answer this.
Put your name in the "subject" of the email and type "YES to the Calabash Literary Festival"

I will send the emails/list to
the Jamaica Tourist Board and the other bodies that I think can save this event
by contributing the needed funds for Calabash Literary Festival to become a reality this year.

They are looking for the balance of US$30,000.00 I believe.
If you know any corporate or private sponsors willing to contribute,
please advise Justine Henzell of that immediately.
Her email is:

It is an inspiring event, as you all know.
and it really would be a pity to not have it again this year ...

Your quickest response is appreciated and needed.

1. To sustain the continuation of the best literary festival in the World

2. To continue the Literary upliftment of the Jamaican People

3. Increase Tourism to Jamaica
