To stop the crime rate and violence in the Island!

How many people are murdered in Puerto Rico? How many young people die in car accidents each year? What is the profile of a domestic violence victim? How many children suffer from abuse at home?

Violent crimes in Puerto Rico decreased drastically throughout the 90s (going from 32,300 in 1992 to 11,400 in 2001). Since 2001 there as been no stable trend.

In Puerto Rico there are 675 murders with firearms per year.

The number of men murdered is 13 times more than the number of women.

91% of suicides are by men, predominantely men between the ages of 40 and 54. In three out of four cases, suicide is carried out by hanging.

32% of women who commit suicide do it between 10 and 12 in the morning. Among men, the distribution is more regular throughout the day, with peaks surrounding 9 in the morning and 5 to 6 in the afternoon.
