Japan- Whaling ships left port today for Antarctic waters for the annual hunt of the Ocean giants, setting the stage for high-seas confrontations with anti-whaling activists. The factory ship Nisshin Maru and the smaller Yushin Maru 2 and Yushin Maru 3 left the western port of Innoshima shortly after 10am for what is usually a five-month bloody hunt.

In regards to the lethal research, the number stands at 85o Minke Whales and 5o Fin Whales. The Japanese Institute of Cetacean Research, which runs the fleet, confirmed that Humpback Whales would again be spared from the hunt, extending a postponement agreed in 2oo7.,23739,26371871-5012766,00.html
