Jasmina had a bone marrow biopsy on Thursday and her numbers are GOOD!!!!!!! This means that the leukemia is finally getting weak in response to the most recent chemo she had. Jasmina is out of the hospital for the Easter weekend. She is spending the weekend at Isabelle's house. Yesterday she even got to go on a short outing to PapaBubble to watch them make candy. Today she flew a butterfly kite on the roof with Wim and Isabelle and she is also enjoying the Hannah Montana recorder microphone the Easter Bunny brought her.
Monday she goes back to NYU to begin another round of chemo. Dr. Carroll is still deciding if he will give her more of the same medication or if he will mix her a stronger chemo cocktail to try and hopefully knock it out once and for all. He really needs to consider her clinical condition when deciding on a plan of action, because he doesn't want to compromise her body and make her too week to handle a transplant. If her number (the leukemia load in her bone marrow) gets below 5% and stays there, she will qualify for a transplant at Sloan Kettering.
The PS 41 drive yielded no 10/10 marrow matches for Jasmina. We should have the results from the Harlem drive in a couple of weeks. If all else fails, a double cord blood transplant is also an option for Jasmina. Since cord blood only needs to match on 5 or 6 points it is easier to find a match.
