Half of U.S. children will use food stamps

According to the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine half the children in the U.S. will be on food stamps during their childhood. The study was based on data collected over a 29 year period. Over 300,000 people are receiving food stamps in Philadelphia and almost half of them are children.

Before welfare was changed 600,000 women and children received benefits but now more than half of them have been cut off. The amount of payment that a family of three gets isn’t enough to get them through a whole month causing either the whole family or the mother to go without eating until the next payment comes in.

Even though Obama boosted the money spent on food stamps to 4.8 billion from 3.3 billion it still isn’t enough. It may seem like an impressive amount but the increase per person only increased by 41 dollars.
