Back to The Case Against Shell

Updates on Wiwa v. Shell

We have two great updates relating to the upcoming Wiwa v. Shell trial.

Ka Hsaw Wa, Goldman Prize winner and Executive Director of EarthRights International, wrote a wonderful article in the Huffington Post today. He spoke about the open letter signed by Goldman winners this week in support of Ken Saro-Wiwa and the case, as well as the significance of the upcoming trial for indigenous people and affected communities the world over. Check out the full article at, and don’t forget to share the link with your friends on Facebook and Twitter to spread the word!

Also this week, a judge rejected Shell’s last-ditch attempt to stop the upcoming trial. Shell claimed the court did not have jurisdiction to consider the case, but the judge overwhelmingly supported plaintiffs’ international law claims for extrajudicial killing, torture, arbitrary detention and crimes against humanity. This is great news because it means the trial will go ahead on May 26, 2009.
