Green Nobel Prize Winners Honor Ken Saro-Wiwa in an Open Letter

Today, former winners of the Goldman Environmental Prize – the “Green Nobel Prize” – issued an open letter honoring Ken Saro-Wiwa, who won the Goldman Prize in 1995 and was executed seven months later. The letter hails the upcoming Wiwa v. Shell trial as a “victory…for justice and accountability everywhere” and calls on the global community to “stand with the Ogoni people in their struggle for environmental justice and human rights.” The 2009 Goldman Prize awards are being held in San Francisco today.

One of the signatories to the letter is Ka Hsaw Wa, Executive Director of EarthRights International and a 1999 prize winner.
