Orishas and Momentum

I cannot thank you enough for all your support and solidarity these past few days. In total, more than 100,000 people marched with Gloria Estefan in Miami and students on 10 campuses organized activities ranging from fast to marches. Click to see a thank you video from Gloria

Moreover, the incredible momentum from this march has sparked two other major marches headed up by Andy Garcia in LA and Carmen Pelaez in NYC on Sun., Mar. 28. Cubans in L.A. have also been able to confirm the popular blogger Perez Hilton, Rosario Dawson and George Lopez will be marching. We truly have momentum behind us and need to keep it going. After an incredibly exciting week, I'd like to welcome in Miami (and their friends/family) to join us this Sat., 3/27 at the invitation of Yotuel from Orishas to see Mestizaje and takepart in a jam session. We have a DISCOUNT ($5 only if you identify yourself as Raices). This is an incredible opportunity to hangout with an "Orisha" - how often does that happen? If you're interest in attending, please let email [email protected]. We have to give a head count before the show. Below are the details.

MESTIZAJE IN CONCERT/EN CONCIERTO: Two musicians – one from Cuba, one from Spain – join together in the duo Mestizaje to create a unique contemporary acoustic fusion of soul, folk and pop music. Beatriz Luengo and Yadam, each already well-known in Europe as independent artists, sing songs of love, of identity and the journey of immigration, celebrating the warmth and the struggles of the human condition. This very special concert brings the positive vibe of Mestizaje, backed by a group South Florida musicians, to Miami for the first time!

Date: Saturday, March 27, 2010
Time: 8:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: Byron Carlyle Theater
Street: 500 71st Street
City/Town: Miami Beach, FL

Again, thanks to everyone who came out to the Miami march and mobilized on their campuses. Good luck to LA and NYC on Sunday (we hope you can make it if you're in the neighborhood) - its time to make history. And for more info on how you can get involved and keep the momentum going, please visit

All the best,

PS: Here are two articles on the incredible momentum we've been able to garner
