Felice Gorordo just posted a link to your cause, Roots of Hope, Inc. (http://apps.facebook.com/causes/16381?m=56c26cf4):
I'm writing with some exciting news and to ask for your support. As you might know, the Roots of Hope will be joining Grammy Award winner Gloria Estefan in a march this Thursday honoring Cuba's Ladies in White - the mothers, daughters, wives and sisters of Cuban prisoners of conscience. In light of the recent wave of repression on the island, the Cuban-American icon and past Roots conference keynote will call for the release of all Cuban prisoners of conscience and solidarity with their families (check out this video for a special message from Gloria - http://youtu.be/Q1W6pM9GViw).
The silent march will take place in Miami on Thursday, March 25 at 6 PM and will begin at the intersection of 8th Street and 27th Avenue. Everyone is encouraged to wear white and bring a flower. We will mirror the weekly peaceful marches of Cuba's Ladies in White. More Roots will be mobilizing on campuses and cities across the country to show our support for Cuba's prisoners of conscience and civil society leaders who are on a hunger strike. Watch this video of Gloria calling on the Roots to take action: http://youtu.be/Q1W6pM9GViw.
In 2003, the Roots network was founded on the heals of the massive crackdown of nonviolent human rights and civil society leaders - known as Cuba's Black Spring. Since then, our student network has mobilized every year across the country in solidarity and to bring attention to our cause. This year, we will take it to an entirely new level with the support of Gloria and others who rise to the occasion and march in solidarity. Join us as we raise awareness and call on the community to demonstrate in solidarity. For more info and how to get involved, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The following Roots of Hope affiliated student groups will be also holding events on their campuses:
- Harvard University
- Georgetown University
- Boston College
- University of Pennsylvania
- University of Florida
- University of South Florida
- University of Miami
- Florida International University
- And several more, will you join us?
In the coming days, you will receive more information on how you can help - both in and outside of Miami. I ask that we all mobilize around this event and help spread awareness of our cause like never before - lets be innovative and creative. From a march to a fast, we can make a low cost, low effort, high impact action that will spread awareness and demonstrate solidarity. For more info and ideas on what you can do, email us at email@example.com.
If you're in Miami, I look forward to seeing you on Thursday. If you're outside South Florida, I look forward to hearing about what you're doing on your campus or in your city.
All the best,
