NATIONAL EXPERT TO SPEAK ON PROSPECTS FOR PEACE AND NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT UNDER PRESIDENT OBAMA

Veterans for Peace, Idaho Peace Coalition, Idaho Campaign to End Israeli Apartheid and the Snake River Alliance present Kevin Martin, Executive Director of Peace Action, the nation’s largest grassroots peace network on Thursday, May 21 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2201 Woodlawn, Boise.

A lasagna dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. Kevin will speak on “Why Better Than Bush is Not Good Enough – What’s Next for the Peace Movement?” at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are suggested. Childcare will be provided.

Kevin Martin became executive director of Peace Action and Peace Action Education Fund on Sept. 4, 2001. Martin previously served as Director of Project Abolition from August 1999 through August 2001. Martin worked ten years as Executive Director of Illinois Peace Action. In 1999 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from national Peace Action. Martin was recognized as a leading organizer in the Illinois peace movement, building coalitions, organizing demonstrations and conferences, and leading educational, advocacy and electoral campaigns on peace and disarmament issues.

In an article published recently in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Martin wrote, “Most of the people of this country, and around the world, want Obama to succeed. However, his escalation of the war in Afghanistan, as well as the ongoing occupation of Iraq, threaten to make a shambles of his domestic economic agenda, as well as his presidency, as the Vietnam War did to President Lyndon Johnson’s presidency.”
