On 13 June, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched the “WMD-We Must Disarm” multiplatform campaign which will run for 100 days until the International Day of Peace on 21 September. This year the Day of Peace will focus on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation to raise awareness of the true costs and dangers of nuclear weapons and of the current window of opportunity for global disarmament. Between now and 21 September, the United Nations will issue 100 reasons to disarm via Twitter and enlist supporters on Facebook and MySpace. Also joining the Secretary-General in promoting the campaign are:
· United Nations Messenger of Peace and Academy Award-winning actor Michael Douglas, who has championed the cause of disarmament for the United Nations since 1998; and
· Rainn Wilson, featured actor in the American television comedy, The Office, who has more than one million followers on Twitter.

The United Nations has also just launched the International Day of Peace website, where you can post your own reasons to disarm at www.un.org/en/events/peaceday
