An arts-based intervention and harm-reduction outreach of the Church of St. Luke in the Fields

An estimated 8000 homeless youth in New York City identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning. We reach out by providing a warm meal, dance, drama and other workshops and evaluation by a social worker to an average of 80-90 young people every Saturday night.

1. LGBTQ youth are at greater risk for violence, substance abuse, HIV infection and suicide than heterosexual homeless youth.

2. The benefits of a drug-free environment where over 500 thirteen to twenty year olds are affirmed and supported for who they are is immeasureable.

3. We welcome an average of 83 young people every Saturday night who otherwise are hanging out on the Piers near Christopher Street.
