Did you know that six billion kilograms of garbage mostly plastic , is dumped into the ocean every year. This is known as water pollution. Water pollution is the pollution of bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, seas, the oceans, as well as groundwater. It occurs when pollutants reach these bodies of water, without treatment. Waste from homes, factories and other buildings get into the water bodies.I want to reduce the amount of water pollution that is ruining, the oceans. I also want to raise an alert to everyone that contributes to the pollution and help them to understand the dangers they are causing to the ocean, sea life and food chain. My campaign is very important due to the damage pollution is causing to our oceans and how badly it is endangering our sea life. Not only that but if we continue at these rates, eventually the ocean will not be safe enough to swim in because water quality will be unsafe. Let’s take a look at the facts.

Fifteen million children under the age of five die every year from diseases caused by drinking contaminated water. It doesn’t help when around 70% of industrial waste is dumped in water. As you know water is essential to life. It need not be spelt out exactly how important it is. Yet water pollution is one of the most serious ecological threats we face today.Because of this it is has put aquatic animal’s estimated extinction rate five times higher than that of terrestrial animals, according to conserve energy future. Change needs to be made immediately because pollution is endangering the our sea life , ruining the water quality, affecting the oceans for us and future generations.

Water pollution is seriously endangering sea life. Every piece of rubbish we drop has a high chance of ending up in some kind of water body and when this happens a fish or any kind of marine animal may mistake it for food. Chronic exposure to pollutants makes sea turtles susceptible to disease and death. Chronically ill turtles are also more vulnerable to predation and collisions with boats.

Water pollution isn’t only endangering sea life but it’s also ruining lakes, rivers and oceans water quality. Water pollution is impacting every single water body in the world but one of the worst parts of it is that the water we are ruining, we are drinking.polluted water in Africa and India causes 1.4 million deaths each year as a result of diarrheal diseases such as cholera and dysentery.

This needs to stop. Look at how much damage has been caused already due to water pollution. Think about the current rates of the pollution and imagine in 20 years’ time what our oceans will be like. In short terms ,if we continue like this future generations will not have safe lakes, rivers ocean to swim in or drink from. Proof of this is all of the lakes and rivers that are already unusable.

To change this we need the government to fund more organizations to start clean ups and educate the population so everyone knows how they can do little things every day to better reduce the rates of pollution we are. Actions need to be taken before it’s too late and all the lakes, rivers and most importantly the ocean becomes too dirty to use. Imagine not being able to swim at the beach due to water quality being unsafe. This will occur. Not instantly, but every little bit of rubbish is having an impact. For these reasons everyone reading this should definitely sign and support my campaign.
