One of the most shocking global issue we are faced with today is the mistreatment and ignorance of the animals’ rights in circuses. Animals used for Entertainment in Circuses are being mentally and physically tortured. The trainers don’t give the animal’s big enough cages or long enough ropes to get a sufficient amount of exercise. PETA have recently discovered the cruel, painful methods of training that the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey use on the animals on a day to day basis.

Every circus animal spends 96% of their life in chains or cages. The world needs to see what these circuses are doing to these animals. Trainers will smack or jab causing the animals to be scared into doing unnatural manoeuvres, such as a lion jumping through a ring of fire, lions particularly a scared of fire. Former animal trainer, Pat Derby says “After 25 years of documenting and observing circuses, I know there are no kind animal trainers.”

Since 1990, there have been over 123 case of lion attacks in circuses. Do they deserve it? Of course they do, trainers will use anything to get the animal to do what they want, like pitchforks, long prongs, whips and chains.

Every animal around the world has a right to live peacefully in their natural surroundings, the same as us. Therefore, there should already be a ban on animals performing for entertainment in circuses. Many countries have already banned animal use in circuses nation-wide, like Bolivia, Finland, India, Singapore and Sweden. These countries have all implemented bans on or prohibited animal acts. Most circus animals are protected under the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare, but it doesn’t stop trainers abusing the animals’ rights in foreign countries.

Abuse – Animal abuse is happening world-wide. Some people block it out because they don’t want see what really happens in foreign and developing countries. In developed countries abuse can be classified as kicking your dog or cat while abuse in other countries is often far more horrific. The definition of animal abuse is, the crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity for normal discipline. It caninclude neglect that is so monstrous (withholding food and water) that the animal has suffered, died or been put in imminent danger of death. Every major circus like Ringling Bros. that uses animals has been cited for violating the minimal standards of care set forth in the United States Animal Welfare Act.

There are hundreds of thousands of animal welfare centers that regularly rescue stray animals, abused animals to animals left behind. Except those organizations usually shy away from rescuing animals from circuses because they feel as though they don’t have to power or they don’t want to get involved. Its organisations like CITES and PETA that act on circuses and raise awareness and make petitions to get an International declaration for the welfare and safety of ALL animals.

A petition needs to be made and advertised AS MUCH AS A NATIONAL ELECTION, but worldwide. Why? Because animals are DYING! There needs to be signing stations at schools to sign up to petitions that promote the rescue of circus animals and petition for a world-wide ban on animals used in entertainment. There needs to be thousands of people who travel to 3rd world countries with pens and copies of the petition for people to sign. It needs to be that one tv ad that plays 2-3 times before your tv shows comes back on. PLEASE JOIN ME AND SIGN THE PETITION TODAY!
