As many of you know, each year for my birthday on March 20th I forgo the typical presents and celebration and ask my friends to donate to a worthy education cause.

This year, my birthday coincides with my departure from NYC and my role as Co-Principal of the Paul Robeson Freedom School. I leave the Freedom School in the worthy hands of my partner-in-justice Rodney 'Radio Rahim' Deas as the school gears up for its biggest summer program yet! I'd like to leave them with a little more than that, too: a fresh cohort of volunteers and some funding to grow the school and its awesome programming!

That's where you come in.

Can you volunteer your time or make a tax-deductible donation to support vibrant, people-powered alternative education and community organizing in Central Brooklyn?

The Freedom School is a community-controlled, independent summer youth program based out of the Church of St. Luke & St. Matthew in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Our students received the 2012 NYU Social Justice Expo Award for their brave campaign to save Paul Robeson HS. The Freedom School received th 2013 U.N. International Day of Peace Award for humanitarian work and peace-building. Donations to the Freedom School are tax-deductible because of our fiscal sponsorship by the Church of St. Luke & St. Matthew, a 501(c)3 non-profit.
