The Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) is a member-supported nonprofit organization seeking to advance the natural history, conservation, and ecosystem knowledge of the Tahoe region through science, education, and outreach. Our education programs fulfill many needs faced by educators, parents, and a community investing in its future: awakening students' curiosity of the natural world, inviting them to become engaged in their immediate natural surroundings, and promoting responsible environmental citizenship. By helping children develop the tools they will need to make informed decisions relevant to the Tahoe region's stewardship issues.
Environmental education has a demonstrated, positive impact - not only on student achievement in science but also in their critical thinking skills. Our nature camps are hands-on, student-centered, inquiry-driven, and relevant to students’ everyday lives.
While our camps are built around providing exceptional nature experiences, they also have the added benefit of getting kids moving through hiking, kayaking, and playing active games.
By helping children attend TINS nature camps, you will help teach children to appreciate and enjoy Tahoe’s beautiful nature at a time of year when many underprivileged children fall behind their peers due to a lack of educational experiences during summer.
