To raise awareness of the dangers and risks associated with nuclear power, by encouraging public protests against its use.
It is important to reduce the use of nuclear power because it is unsafe, it is an easy target for terrorist attacks and it is very expensive.
Nuclear power is no solution to the issue of climate change.
Whatever the government says about nuclear power being ‘greenhouse gas friendly’ is a complete lie. My aim is to raise awareness of the dangers and risks associated with nuclear power by starting a public protest.
Nuclear power is clearly not the answer, but more people need to see this issue and why it is wrong. If the use of nuclear power increases it is likely to seriously harm the Earth, because it is very hazardous and radioactive. There is not one place on Earth where the nuclear waste can be dumped safely.
The resource used for nuclear power is uranium ore. At the current rate of consumption uranium will be depleted in 50 years. This shows that nuclear power is not a sustainable way of providing electricity. On top on it not being sustainable, mining and transporting the uranium creates a considerable amount of greenhouse gas. Terrorism will become a growing issue if nuclear power increases. The power plants will be an attractive target for terrorism and sabotage.
There has be a major event that have affected the world relating to nuclear power. The Chernobyl disaster was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. An explosion occurred resulting in releasing large quantities of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, which spread nearly all the way to Europe. The Chernobyl disaster is widely considered to have been the worst nuclear power plant accident in history. To contain the contamination it cost around 18 billion rubles and needed around 500,000 workers. This disaster caused 31 deaths and affected many other civilians with cancers and deformities. This is an issue that needs to be addressed, because if this starts happening around the world, there won’t be anywhere safe from radioactivity.
By looking at these facts and what has happened in the past, it clearly shows that having nuclear power is a bad idea. We need to stop nuclear power before it is too late. To do so we need to act now, we need to protest the government against the use of nuclear power and encourage alternative ways of getting electricity such as biomass from agriculture, plantation forestry residues, photovoltaic, solar thermal systems and hydroelectricity.
