On February 10, 2014, food bloggers from around the world donated their posts to Feed South Africa and have asked their readers and networks to help raise money for The Lunchbox Fund, a South African nonprofit organization that fosters education through nutrition.
The Lunchbox Fund works in South Africa, where nearly 20% of the child population are orphans, many due to the affects of HIV and AIDS. Many have become heads of household, or strain the meager pensions of their grandparents. Often, there is not enough money for food.
For some children, the only meal they will consume all day is served in the classroom. By providing a daily meal to orphaned and vulnerable students, children are more likely to stay in school, perform better academically, and break the cycle of poverty.
