As a result of allegations that Australia bugged the East Timor government during critical negotiations on the Timor Sea Treaty which dealt with the sharing between Australia and East Timor of about $40 billion of oil and gas resources, East Timor has annulled the treaty and sought arbitration in the Hague. Lawyer Bernard Collaery is leading the charge against Australia but yesterday had his Canberra house raided by 15 ASIO spies and legal files removed. A key witness to the bugging, an ex-ASIS agent, has also been arrested. We call on Australia's Attorney-General George Brandis and the head of Australia's spy agency, ASIO, to resign over this heavy-handed interference in the legal process.
