Today Ecuador's indigenous nationalities declared once again that the Amazon is NOT for sale at a press conference in the rainforest. Tomorrow, as final bids come in for the 11th Round oil auction, they will be rallying in defense of their territories in the southern Ecuadorian Amazon.
In Ecuador indigenous leaders have taken to the streets to oppose the government's attempts to auction off 8 million acres of the Amazon to oil companies. The auction threatens the best-protected tract of primary rainforest remaining in Ecuador and over seven indigenous nationalities that call this forest home.
As indigenous peoples rally against the government's attempt to close the bidding process, let's stand with them to tell Ecuador that the Amazon is NOT for sale!
