Common Sense Action (CSA), which is representing Brown in the Up to Us competition, is hosting the Rhode Island Fiscal Summit in Alumni Hall at Brown University on February 23, 2013 from 12pm to 4pm. Using Rhode Island's fiscal challenges as a case study, we hope to explore the impact of as well as solutions to the large federal deficits and debt crisis.

We ask: as we try to reduce our deficits, how do Americans from all political backgrounds come together to make the hard cuts and necessary investments to create a sustianable economic future for the next generation? The summit will conclude with brief remarks from Common Sense Action on how our generation can inspire sensible political action.

The Rhode Island Fiscal Summit will be introduced by President Paxson and keynoted by Steven Rattner (Brown '74), former Counselor to the U.S. Treasury, media Contributor, and Steering Committee member of the Campaign to Fix the Debt.

The summit will feature a panel discussion moderated by Ted Nesi, WPRI reporter and blogger for Nesi's Notes on Panelists include:

  • Allan Fung: Mayor of Cranston Rhode Island.
  • Robert Weygand: Vice President for Finance and Administration, URI. Former U.S. Representative (RI-2) and Lieutenant Governor.
