The theme for this year's World Environment Day celebrations is Think. Eat. Save. - An anti-food waste and food loss campaign.
Tigers never waste their food. They kill only when they're hungry and keep returning to feed on the same kill again and again until nothing is left.
But what about humans?
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food, equivalent to the amount produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa, is wasted.
At the same time, one in every seven people in the world goes to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of five die daily from hunger. Given this enormous imbalance and the devastating effects on the environment, the endeavour this year is to encourage people to become more aware of the environmental impact of the food choices they make and empower them to make informed decisions.
