Currently, Subway Restaurant employees complete each order by placing each sandwich in its own plastic bag. When you consider the over 37,000 Subway restaurants in 100 countries worldwide, making a small change in policy such as requiring guests to request a bag instead of automatically placing a sub sandwich in a bag would reduce the environmental impact and waste generated by this restaurant chain. Competitor Jimmy John's already has this policy: they hand a paper-wrapped sandwich directly to customers and have paper bags available on the counter to take if they'd like one. Customers typically leave with their sandwich in hand and no bag. This is an opportunity to make a very small change in corporate policy that could have a major impact.
