Last year the DA-led Western Cape provincial government closed 16 poor black schools. This year this government targeted 27 more schools facing the chop. The majority are rural schools and three are high schools in the Cape Town metropolitan area. No prior consultation with communities took place and there is no plan for the closing down of these schools or even for education in the province that had been negotiated with communities and stake holders like the affected teachers. On the other hand many struggling former white schools remain untouched! Let us unite to say NO, NO, NO to these unfair and racist closures!
