Our Mission: Honor John K. Clendenen's memory as a dedicated educator who continues to inspire young people to be and do their best at school and in life.

The John K. Clendenen Scholarship Fund's mission is to honor his memory as a dedicated educator who continues to inspire young people to be and do their best at school and in life. Mr. C was a dedicated educator who touched the lives of thousands of young people as a teacher at Herbert Hoover High School and as a principal at Thomas Jefferson Jr. High, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High, Charleston High, and Capital High Schools.

When he was the principal of Capital High School, he ended the morning announcements by saying, "Everyone is someone at Capital High School." He believed in treating everyone with equality, respect, and kindness. He challenged each of us to embrace life and one another, to celebrate diversity, to lend a helping hand, and to treat others the way we would like to be treated.

Mr. Clendenen's ability to relate to others made him a respected community leader, popular principal, trusted friend and loving family man. His legacy as an educator will continue in the John K. Clendenen Scholarship Fund. To honor his memory as a dedicated educator, an annual scholarship in the sum of $1,000 will be awarded to a graduating Capital High senior who writes the best essay on the topic "Making Everyone Feel like Someone."

His eldest daughter, Tricia Clendenen Kingery, oversees the scholarship program and works with Capital High's current principal Mr. Clinton Giles to encourage student's to apply. The scholarship is awarded upon graduation.
