As many of you know, each year I make a birthday wish to raise money for a non-profit that works with low-income, marginalized youth. In years past I've raised hundreds of dollars for awesome organizations like Bailey's Cafe & Class Size Matters.
This year has been a tough one for the 99%, and in particular for arts education.
Dance Theatre Etcetera and I go way back to when I taught in Red Hook and was blessed to work with Martha Bowers, the Exec Director. Her organization does incredibly empowering work, helping train and place teaching artists in schools that work with some of the most at-risk students in NYC. But DTE has been hit doubly hard by hurricane Sandy and the cutbacks in education funding, and needs our support more than ever.
So today I'm launching my birthday wish to raise $500 for DTE. I hope you'll pitch in if you can!
