Coral reef bleaching is
occurring in reefs worldwide, but hitting hardest closest to home on the Great Barrier Reef. We need to slow down the effects of global warming to slow the rise in temperature so coral reefs around the world have a chance to adapt to the change in water temperature. If we lose the coral reefs we lose food for millions, tourism and money for many costal countries.

Coral reef are dying all around the world. About one-sixth of the world’s coral colonies has already died. One of the world most butifull natural wonders the great barrier reef is suffering from reef bleaching over more than 50% of the Reef. Most of the bleaching is up around the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Mass bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef have been monitored since the early 1980s. Mass bleaching events in 1998, 2002, 2006 and most recently 2016. Bleaching in 2008 and 2011 was caused by an influx of freshwater. The most common course of Coral bleaching is caused by temperature spikes in surrounding waters, that is was resalted on the great barrier reef in 2016. The unusually warm sea surface temperatures during the summer season bleached a large amount of coral near the surface of the water. Coral can recover from bleaching if it is given a chance and the right conditions

We need to change and change know before we fuck it up forever. If we can’t stop global warming, we can at least slow it down. Without the coral reef people will starve. Business will suffer. And tourism on reef will end because no want wants to look at a depressing death that we cased.

Dead reefs means no fish. No fish means no food. No food means people will starve and sadly many will die. Coral reefs are vital to the world’s fisheries. They form the nurseries for about a quarter of the ocean's fish, and thus provide revenue for local communities as well as national and international fishing fleets. An estimated one billion people have some dependence on coral reefs for food and income from fishing. If properly managed, reefs can yield around 15 tonnes of fish and other seafood per square kilometre each year. This is one of many reasons why we need to take action and slow the effect of global warming

Tourism revenues generated by coral reefs are also significant. For example, according to a report by the Key West chamber of commerce, tourists visiting the Florida Keys in the US generate at least US$3 billion dollars in annual income, while Australia’s Great Barrier Reef generates well over US$1 billion per year. Sustainably manged coral reef-based tourism can also provide significant alternative or additional sources of income to poore The marine tourism business is most important business in the Great Barrier Reef and a foremost contributor to the Australian economy. Yearly, it generates over $4 billion, being the largest industrial activity in the Great Barrier Reef region.r coastal communities in developing countries.

The great barrier reef alone is home 1,500 different species of fish, 411 types of hard coral, one-third of the world's soft corals, 134 species of sharks and rays, six of the world's seven species of threatened marine turtles, and more than 30 species of marine mammals, including the vulnerable dugong. If the great barrier reef continues to die and coral keep bleaching. Many of these species will die off and possible become in danged or even go extinct.

We can’t stop global warming, but we can slow its effects and give the coral an opportunity to build tolerance. We need to make changes and make it fast before any more damage is done. I need to work on reducing carbon emissions on and off water. We need to remove all 2 stroke outboards under 40hp and any 2 stroke engine vehicle also no more road legal 2 stroke motorbikes or scooters. All fleet companies and transport companies need to have vehicles that meet strict emission standards and if a person’s vehicle does not meet a certain emission standards it will need a permit for use. Mining and earth moving equipment in large scale projects should convert to hybrid power and machines (diesel electric). For certain areas of the reef we can make thermal temperature controls so the coral has a chance to come back and survive. If you don’t want to be the one responsible for the death of coral reef then put your hand up and help with trying to make a change.
