senate Bill S. Joint Res. 52

Should the Trump Admin’s Rule That Makes it Easier for States to Obtain Obamacare Waivers be Repealed?

Argument in favor

The Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) provision prohibiting insurance companies from discriminating against people with pre-existing conditions is an important one, as it ensures that all Americans can access health care coverage regardless of their medical history. Rolling this rule back hurts patients and destabilizes the ACA marketplaces — two bad outcomes that should be avoided.

Alternative plans by States undercuts the foundation of the ACA, confuses the public regarding what us covered and what is not and only serves the purpose of discrediting the ACA- something trump and the Republicans have been trying to do. Wealthy people don’t need the ACA. Congress people have the best medical insurance in existence- taxpayer subsidized for life and way better than the best federal employee medical insurance. Republicans have tried repeatedly by legislative and legal challenges to eliminate the pre-existing condition coverage of the ACA since it was adopted- despite their universal claims in the 2018 elections that they had an alternative plan that would ‘absolutely’ cover pre-existing conditions. Where is this plan? Was their ever a plan? This was a bold faced election year lie spouted by every republican that could get their face on camera. Given that history, I cannot trust anything put forward by trump and the publicans to be either truthful or helpful. The ACA is a hard worked platform from which to build a comprehensive coverage for all of us and not for just those who can afford alternatives. It is purposefully being diluted by trump’s directives as a basis for discrediting it. Perhaps you should all get to town-hall meetings with publican reps and ask them what it means when they caucus to discuss “slaying the beast”, particularly those elderly of you who are dependent on the promises made by Social Security.

Keep the ACA strong while quickly working toward universal single payer healthcare, cradle to grave.

Argument opposed

It’s simply untrue that the Trump administration’s waivers allowing states to deviate from certain ACA provisions allows plans to not cover pre-existing conditions. The waivers merely allow states to create innovative new plans and be considered in compliance with the ACA as long as their plans cover the same number of people as would have been covered without the waiver.

Need to repeal Obamacare completely. It has made it more expensive, doctors spend more time on paperwork and still cannot give patients the best care. Obama and all of Congress needs to have Obamacare

No, this should not be repealed. Many Americans have seen their insurance premiums go up and benefits become subpar as well as healthcare costs go up to accommodate all of the costs with Obamacare. Even so, premiums to those on Obamacare have also gone up. Nobody has done well on this all the way around. If Obamacare has been such a problem just imagine what a nightmare Medicare for all and socialized healthcare will be. No, to repealing!!

These alternative plans tend to not have the protections that the Affordable Care Act has. Making it easier to waive the ACA hurts patients and the marketplaces.

Trump is a corrupt president. Everything he has done should be tossed in a garbage can and he should be jailed. His corrupt republican cohorts are trying to break the law and punish a patriot. Even in closed hearings they don’t seek the truth but only break the law. Every day we see his corruption is further exposed.

I strongly support Universal Healthcare in some form or another. We desperately need to catch up to the rest of the developed world when it comes to healthcare. First and foremost, healthcare directly corresponds to Life (as in “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”). That makes healthcare a right, not a privilege. As such, nobody should ever be denied treatment, including preventative care, regardless of ability to pay. I would MUCH rather my taxes be spent ensuring that a child who needs it receives healthcare than paying for a useless wall that will do nothing to stop illegal immigration. We need to look at all the other countries in the world with Universal Healthcare and see what they are doing. Find out what DOES work, why, and copy it. Find out what does NOT work and why it doesn’t work, and what they have already done to try to fix it so we don’t copy mistakes that have already been made. Use this knowledge to build the best functioning, most equitable healthcare system in the world. I know we can, we just have to try!

America, are you really a Christian Nation? The way some people add comments about negative reasons to avoid helping others, that others don’t deserve healthcare is stupid. Why would you idiots, welcome some disease that could wipe out half the population because of a lack of health care? How about you so called moral majorities, get some religion that has love in it? The latest dump of waste is on a Purple Heart recipient, I almost guarantee the opposition never served. I’m Fierce and Fiery about this country and I see enough nose jobs from Todd and the elected Indiana crew. Catch me!

Pre-existing condition is merely your medical history. If insurance excludes coverage for your medical history, think of the additional expense to treat your high blood pressure, diabetics, even a recurring sinus infection. One and for all, health insurance must provide coverage for all illness per life. End talk of pre-existing conditions exclusion.

Universal health care now! When insurance companies make the rules- insurance companies rape the people for obscene profits. They let sick children die so they can make obscene profits, they let people with cancer and ALS suffer so they can make obscene profits.
