senate Bill S. Joint Res. 37

Should Congress Block the Sale of Laser Guidance Systems for Precision Bombs to the United Arab Emirates?

Argument in favor

The United Arab Emirates has played a key role in the Saudi-led coalition against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, a campaign which has featured appalling civilian casualties from strikes carried out by the coalition. Blocking this arms sale would encourage the coalition to rein in its tactics.

Yes, same answer as before— Yes, block the sale. Override trump’s veto. At least follow up on what you already voted for. Assert Congressional authority and honor the commitment which you have already made. It may be your last chance before trump asserts a imaginary national emergency, declares Marshall law and has you all imprisoned. You think this sounds extreme? That’s what we thought about each of his prior increasingly extreme actions which you have not challenged and now seem to be acceptable practice. Time for adults to collectively stand up to this bully and stop him from getting any worse. If party leadership wants to play politics instead- ignore them and do what you know is right...

Argument opposed

The United Arab Emirates is a key U.S. ally in the Middle East and is fighting an Iran-backed insurgency that would further destabilize Yemen and exacerbate regional threats to civilian populations and international shipping. Selling the UAE laser guidance kits for precision bombs will help reduce civilian casualties.

We need to support our allies in the region, keep your friends close and your enemies even closer. If were gonna stop Iran we must share the responsibility and not carry the load all by ourselves, they must share equally. #MAGA

The UAE and Saudi Arabia are not our friends. They are only pretending to be our allies to get our support in a power struggle with Iran. We should not be involved in regional power struggles, and we definitely should ban weapons sales to states such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia that cause lots of civilian casualties for no reason.
