senate Bill S. Joint Res. 2

Should Congress Reverse Sanctions Relief for Companies Related to a Russian Oligarch?

Argument in favor

This bill would wisely reverse the Trump administration’s flawed decision to offer sanctions relief to three companies connected to a Russian oligarch named Oleg Deripaska, who is linked to Paul Manafort and is under investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Since taking office, #45 has made it known that he sides and will act in favor of Putin/Russia versus the US. Clearly, bipartisan legislature is a must when looking out for our interests. We need to reinstate the sanctions on Russia’s oligarchy. Are our Republican representatives so committed to voting along party lines no matter the compromising or weakening situation for our country? A clear message must be sent to #45: We are the United States of America NOT the United States of Russia!

Argument opposed

The Treasury Department’s decision to lift sanctions on the three companies connected to Oleg Deripaska didn’t change the fact that he is personally sanctioned and will continue to be. This bill is an attempt to show non-existent impropriety.

No we need to get along with the Russians. We don't own the world. I don't want a bigger war than the one already going on in the Middle East.

Absolutely not. These companies under the direction of Russian government influenced our 2016 election. Why would we remove sanctions?

Deripaska likely benefits from the 3 companies, thus lifting sanctions on the companies would be a boon for Deripaska. Deripaska AND his business interests should be sanctioned.

The December decision was a gift from the outgoing Republican Congress to their paymaster oligarchs, who sought, successfully, to undermine our government. There is no benefit to the American people from this gift, So it must be reversed.

Oligarchies harm Russian citizens and aid the harmful post communist government. By denouncing that sanction break, this holds the Russian government accountable and holds those connected to Russian meddling in the 2016 election accountable and to the same standard we hold the American people. This would promote worldwide freedom without force and promotes our position of power.

I know our MN Senators will vote to reimpose these sanctions. Please talk to all the Republican senators and do what you can to convince them to vote for these sanctions to be upheld!

There is no reason why the Treasury department should remove the sanctions on these companies when they’re affiliated with a Russian oligarch with ties to Paul Manafort! This sounds like criminals in this administration helping other criminals!

It should be obvious by now that the president cares more about being in the good graces of dictators and their enablers. He is the biggest enabler of them all. Congress should take its job seriously as a separate arm of government and do what is needed to sanction bad actors.

I support this bill. I would recommend Congress take this a step further and remove the necessity for have such bills signed by the President. This would protect America from the influence of foreign counties who buy favor with the President.
