Congress should be the first to have its pay suspended if the government shuts down.

I believe that Government shutdowns should not be permitted, but as a consequence, it would be far more effective if Congress member's salary would be reduced. Why should the tax payers pay for incompetency.

I agree with the majority here, no kicking the can down the road. If you can't do your job, then the government gets shut down. If that happens, Congressional pay and benefits should be suspended till such time as a budget is passed to the satisfaction of The People. Quit putting your feet up on the desk to take a snooze or taking the 3 martini lunches, stop listening to wealthy special interests and do the will of the people as you were hired to. Do Your Jobs.

Automatic funding of government?? Are you kidding me?? There should be nothing automatic about a system that operates off of extorted revenues.

The prohibition excludes outlays for repayment of debt principal and receipts derived from borrowing. The amendment prohibits total outlays for any fiscal year from exceeding 18% of the U.S. gross domestic product, unless two-thirds of each chamber of Congress provides for a specific increase above this amount. The amendment requires a two-thirds vote of each chamber of Congress to impose a new tax, increase the statutory rate of any tax, or increase the aggregate amount of revenue. This bill will allow legislators to "kick the can down the road." Responsible legislation will come from reasonable negotiations, not a bill like this. I expect my legislators to be smart and work hard to make this country run effectively, not to hold fast to positions that "the other side" doesn't agree with. Please do not support this bill.

A government that cannot remain funded due to its own political infighting should suffer the consequences.

Too damn arbitrary and way too restrictive - WE NEED A REAL BUDGET WITH REAL SOURCES AND USES OF FUNDS. The problem is we don't have the sources to match the uses and we borrow to pay for what we need...If the average American does this they go bankrupt in just a matter of time - is this what we REALLY want???

We should not enable Congress to avoid doing their job. Instead of bills like this, they should try working together and compromising!

While you're at it, let's tie the salaries of Congress to any shut down. When people don't do their jobs, they don't get paid.

If we allow automatic funding to ensue, Congress will have no incentive to accomplish a vote, therefore kicking the can down the road.

I suggest suspending Congress and Senate pay until the budget is passed. This may provide the incentive needed to cross the aisle and make some real forward progress on compromise.

A shutdown is a powerful tool that can force the kind of compromise that is for a two party system to work.
