This bill completely infringes upon the 2nd amendment and my god given right as a human being living in the United States of America to bear arms. Stripping any aspect of this fundamental right would be the same as limiting the freedom of speech that is protected by the first amendment of the United States Constitution. I am just one of many who will oppose this ban tooth and nail to protect our lives and our liberty. For those of you who will cling to the idea that the safety of our citizens is more important than excessive interpretation of the 2nd amendment... I hope you’re never in a situation where a firearm could save your life or the lives of those you love. This statistic is overlooked by gun control advocates purposefully. Law biding citizens with a firearm are responsible for saving hundreds of thousands of lives whereas the majority of gun related deaths that are counted in the pro gun control statistics are suicides. Do you really think that somebody who wants to shoot up a school or church will be deterred by the fact that they aren’t legally allowed to purchase an “assault weapon”? This legislation is ridiculous in nature. With this legislation in place I would be able to purchase a Ruger Mini 14 but not an AR-15 that has identical capabilities and fires the same cartridge. The criteria set forth in this legislation is based on the look of the firearm and not the actual function of the firearm. Furthermore, the claim that the AR-15 is an assault weapon or military style weapon is completely ludicrous. Any army outfitted with an arsenal of AR-15s would be so sorely outgunned that they’d be massacred by even the most poorly armed modern military (even by 1900s standards). I can’t believe how poorly informed our people are in an age where the collective knowledge of humanity is literally at our fingertips.
Gun controls do not hurt criminals, they hurt law abiding citizens whom could also aide a police officer if they were in trouble. Limitations give more, not less power to criminals by removing our ability to protect ourselves.
Ever read “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie?” We had an “assault weapon ban” under Clinton. We still had Columbine. More regulation is not the solution. I fail to see how this does anything but create more bureaucracy that benefits only bureaucrats, and put Feinstein’s name on something she can point to in an effort to prop herself up. What’s going to end up happening is that “owners will get to keep existing weapons,” but passing them down to other people (like your kids) is going to be made progressively more difficult.
This is step 1 of trying to convince the public “we don’t think you need it, so we’re going to do it gradually.”
Criminals will find a way to access illegal firearms regardless of legislation. Instead of banning weapons, we should focus on more extensive background checks to ensure that guns remain in the safest hands. This bill will not bring any substantive change to the status quo.
This is pure infringement and a backdoor gungrab. Non-compliance has been the status quo on issues like this, and if you push this ban through you will see more of the same, all while leaving criminals to keep whatever they want because they don’t follow the law anyway.
Every gun law is just another step in destroying the 2nd amendment. I didn't serve my country in the military just to have my rights slowly whittled away. If you vote for this bill you'll never get my vote again.
Listen, I like guns. What they are banning is not my point. Once people like fienstein get what they want, no matter how unconstitutional it is, won’t stop. Enough is enough. Plus, I sport with my AK. This ain’t right. Too much power. She’s old and cranky and doesn’t care about us, just her image. Yeah cause taking our guns away is gonna stop crime. News flash, that idea never worked in the first place. Don’t be duped by this woman.
The Second Amendment isn't for hunting, to say otherwise is a sign of ignorance of the history of fire arms. Muskets were heavy, Loud, highly inaccurate, and the reload time was significant, if you missed your first shot the deer could easily have ran away. That being said, the founding fathers just fought off a tyrant that tried to rob them of their fire arms, the second amendment is for fighting off tyranny. If the three branches of government are a check and balance to each other than the second amendment is a check and balance for the people to the government.
This in no way infringes upon any rights. The bill isn’t trying to stop people from owning guns. Guns are dangerous even if the owner is trained, they can fall into wrong hands and other issues. If someone needs to own guns that is fine. But if there is no reason for the gun ownership that why have more potential for tragedies. Just pointing out the obvious which is that there is no reason for an individual to own many guns.
I support the Assault Weapons Ban Act of 2019 (H.R. 1296, S.66). These are military-purpose weapons that have no place in civilian hands. There should be a voluntary buyback program for a year, followed by a three month mandatory buyback program, after which all remaining assault weapons would be confiscated.
The reason I'm against the bill for bans on assault weapons is because of our 2nd amendment right to not be infringed, plus if this bill will pass think of what other countries think about their citizens that can be bossed around. And it's not like any other country, but the USA where freedom isn't free. Countries will attack because the people can't protect their land.
