senate Bill S. 2313

Sanctioning Russia, China, North Korea and Other Countries if They Interfere in Federal Elections

Argument in favor

If foreign governments like Russia, China, or North Korea meddle in U.S. elections they should face sanctions. This bill establishes clear “redlines” to deter specific types of interference and ensures that there will be retaliation if those lines are crossed for repeat offenders like Russia.

Yes, yes, yes! To not place sanctions on these treasonous violations is treasonous in itself!

Here’s the problem… Sanctions have already been voted on and passed and are being ignored by the administration. All the laws can be made all the sanctions can be passed all of the reforms can be legislated but nothing is getting done because the president of the United States is an infantile, illegitimate president and his one desire is to make money off of this fiasco he calls an administration.

Argument opposed

Imposing sanctions on foreign governments can have major repercussions for diplomatic and economic stability, and essentially pre-imposing sanctions for certain types of election interference is misguided. Retaliation should be on a case-by-case basis.

We meddle in other countries continuously. All this pearl cluthching is hypocrisy at it's most refined. Do you plan to disband the CIA, NSA, and all branches of military intelligence? If not, we rather lack the moral high ground here.

We don’t even hold our own news/media accountable no less large corporations or individuals here in the USA. Let’s face an issue here that elections are influenced already and bought and paid for. We also should ban lobbyists who also greatly influence our elections as well.

It is too vague and would quickly become a tool for those trying to manipulate the public.

Absolutely and any American who is intentionally complicit in these attacks should be sent to prison in Fort Leavenworth military prison.

Additional sanctions against Russia have crossed #45’s desk a few weeks back. He did not sign it. Therefore, as he has clearly indicated he promotes Russian interests more than those of the the US citizens, then pass this law. Any country who try to impose their wants on our elections. must be stopped. The best way to have them stopped is to hurt them in their wallets. It’s time for the US to get a backbone.

Why is Congress allowing Trump to ignore sanctions on Russia - grow a spine or resign...you are all in Congress for the people, not this president!

We absolutely need fair elections. Gerrymandering is bad enough but added foreign interference gets us bozos like DJT for prez.

How many people don't realize that the United States has been doing this to other countries for decades? Sanctioning others for doing the exact same thing we've been doing is a bit hypocritical, don't you think? Besides, they didn't tamper with our machines or votes. They simply opened the door to what the dnc and Clintons have been up to all these years. Seems like they did is a favor.

Please make sure it is not just limited to a few countries - it should be ANY nation that meddles in the election.

Those who interfered in the 2016 election are members of the DOJ, FBI and Clinton campaign. Those are the ones who should be sanctioned.

This should have been acted on a year ago. Time to learn from other countries that have already setup programs to counter this attack.

I agree the US should take every measure possible to insure our elections are fair and honest. However, you people already passed a bill to sanction Russia for interfering in our LAST election and what did that get you? Until the president and his minions Tillerson and Mnuchin do their jobs and obey the last law, this is a waste of time. Instead of taking a symbolic stand, perhaps you can drag the Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State up to the hill and DEMAND an explanation for their desire in breaking the last law you passed. issuing sanctions after the fact help no one but the Russians, the Chinese and the North Koreans.
