senate Bill S. 227

Should Congress Extend Funding For Department Of Education Research Programs?

Argument in favor

There needs to be continuous research into U.S. educational systems so those in power can see what's working and what's not. The U.S. can get back to being a world education leader.

"STEM programs are the key to our future. Right now we are projected to have more STEM jobs requiring higher education than people to fill those positions."

In today's information-based economy, the only way to ensure that the U.S. continues thriving is through robust academic and intellectual initiatives. This is the best way to foster revolutionary innovations that can benefit the whole population.

Argument opposed

For all the noble programs this bill provides funding for, it doesn’t provide measurable goals that these programs are supposed to work towards.

We need God and the Bible back in our schools. I am tired of spending my money on a broken education system. I wish I could give my school taxes to Christian Schools who teach kids how to live. "You teach a kid how to live and they will make a living". - Principle J.D King.

We've already thrown enough into the DOE inefficient methods. Perhaps something that works should get tax dollars, rather than throw money at a problem, and think money will solve the problem.

Research is good. If the bill lacks measurable goal setting provision, amend it

This country is a joke when it comes to funding education and programs that work. It's time we invest in our future again.

Since STEM, STEAM & JTED programs are often outside of standard educational budget purviews, we should fund these to the fullest because they represent the best way to regain America's competitiveness & international footing going forward.

The obvious recent decline in the quality of public education in the United States is evidence that Federal involvement ("meddling") hurts, not helps. More taxpayer money wasted at the Federal level is not going to solve the problem.

Education should be run by states and ideally, independent school districts, not the federal government.

End the Department of Ed and return our education to the states and locals. The Dept of Ed is anti-American and just another bloated non-elected federal agency!

We don't even need the DOE. No "one size fits all" in education. Besides, the more money schools receive for education, still can't figure that one out.
