Should There be Grants For School Districts to Give High School Seniors Voter Registration Information?

This bill would help provide school districts with the resources they need to provide high school seniors with voter registration information, ensuring that young people can exercise their right to vote once they turn 18.

Yes this should be done along with in depth Civics Classes. We should be providing all future voters with all the information possible to help them more understand our form of Democracy. Today to many people are ill informed which enables officiation, distortions and lies being told to the electorate and believed. A well educated electorate is the best protection for our Democracy. Our current President thrives on lies, misdirection and officiation. This Congress seems no better. Everyone should vote and that preparation should begin well before high school graduation.

The US has a terrible voter turnout rate. This would help to increase that. The more people vote the better off we’ll be as a country

There is such a low turnout for the young generation lately. We need to inform them of what they can do to vote and ensure they are participating in government to be recognized and active in shaping the future. We can’t risk them not being active and turn into some neo form of Nazi Germany or watch our country grow even more corrupt. Vote Yea!

There are a multitude of ways for high school seniors to access the information they need to register to vote if they want to. It’s not the federal government’s job to encourage registration, so this bill is unnecessary.

I’m a high school teacher. Our school already does this and most government teachers I know have voter registration applications in their classrooms. Why would schools need to receive funds to do this? Also, not all educators are liberals as a previous comment suggested. Most teachers want students to learn to think critically and independently. We aren’t trying to indoctrinate them in some kind of liberal or conservative agenda.

All American citizens should be automatically registered when they turn 18. And declare Election Day as a national holiday.

Pretty sure you could get groups to come into high schools for free to do voter registration drives and provide information. We don’t need to fund this.

In Kentucky a bill was recently passed that we have to pass the citizenship test to pass. Taking into consideration the very low voter turnout in the United States this will greatly help. I believe this will go along with the test and inform the young Americans coming out of high school, also this will enable these students to vote and possibly even motivate them more to vote.
This isn't automatic voter registration like I might prefer, but it's a good start. We shouldn't place the onus of responsibility upon parents to educate and encourage their children to do their civic duty. Even in high-turnout elections only about 50% of the voting populace actually turns out and votes, so it's ridiculous to assume the majority of parents would even encourage their kids to vote when at least half don't themselves. In addition, it's ill advised to assume parents will automatically provide correct information on the voting process because, again, half of them don't even vote. Democracy only works better as voter turnout increases, so this should be a no-brainer. It's not perfect, but it's a start.
I don’t think this would be a good idea because the education system is full of a bunch of liberals and I don’t want 18 year olds being influenced a certain way by the people handing out the registration papers.
Yes! We should be doing everything possible to ensure that EVERY American has both the ability—via registration—and the understanding of our government—via civic education—to be an effective voter.
Congress is always thinking about how to spend money unnecessarily. High school kids can go and register for voting like any other adult. Stop spending money that grandkids would have to pay later.
This already happens in most high school Civics classes. It also occurs when teens apply for their drivers licenses. It would be more beneficial if there were incentive grants in elementary to build students National Identity and concept development associated with Civic education -which have all but disappeared in the elementary grades.
As a current High School senior, I can assure you that government classes, that are required to graduate, give adequate information as to how to register to vote. The curriculum in most schools already includes voter registration information in the first unit of the year. There is no reason to allocate funds to repeat this information.
No, teach kids to have initiative and to be responsible for themselves. You may be surprised what they can do on their own.
When I graduated High School, many years ago, we registered to vote before graduating. Yes, students should be registered to vote before graduation and Civics classes mandatory prior to graduation and voter registration. Also, what is going on in our government now, should be used as an example so hopefully this never, ever happens again.
I am a Senior and I was able to vote just fine without the government wasting any money on showing me how.
Educate Our future leaders on their rights responsibilities and options as a US citizen.
