The Paycheck Fairness Act: Closing the Wage Gap Between Women and Men (S. 2199)

What is S. 2199?
(Updated December 7, 2019)
Attempts to close the pay gap between women and men by more clearly defining what constitutes pay discrimination. Requires employers to demonstrate that wage differentials between women and men holding the same position and doing the same work stem from factors other than gender. Strengthens penalties for equal pay violations. Prohibits retaliation against workers who inquire about their employer's wage practices and/or disclose their own wages.
