Should the U.S. Block Technology Exports That Could Aid China’s Persecution of the Uighur Muslims?
Argument in favor
The U.S. should take a stand against the People’s Republic of China’s mass surveillance of the Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities and the internment of a million or more in “political reeducation” camps. The reports required by this bill would orient federal agencies toward strategies that will end the persecution diplomatically.

Selling arms and technology for repressing or eliminating others is immoral.
Argument opposed
Congress shouldn’t try to tie the hands of the executive branch as it engages in diplomacy with China. The reports required by this bill could further weaken the U.S.-China diplomatic relationship amid an ongoing trade dispute and tensions over North Korea’s nuclear program.

I will not support any Republican legislation until the GOP upholds the Constitution and decides to represent the people who elected them over both president/party.

I think a Congressional resolution is appropriate; of our Country’s belief in human rights and that it is our belief that that Uighur’s rights as human beings are being violated by China’s persecution policies. I don’t think we have the right nor the authority to unilaterally impose our beliefs on another country, unless we do so as part of a broader world community of allied partners. This appears to be another attempt to leverage an unrelated issue in order to force trade policy changes because we think we can. Our ability to enforce our will on other countries has been seriously diminished under our republican-enabled trump ‘rule’. The downfall of authoritarian regimes, of which we have increasingly become, is that their self-righteous beliefs, which by ‘proclamation’ are ‘right and righteous’, can simply be imposed on others. If needed, these beliefs should not be ‘policied’ by us alone because ‘we said so’ without allied interests and international cooperation and support. In particular, this all seems quite hypocritical given our own abdominal recent ‘human-rights’ abuses of Latino immigrants. ... ... ... It is always much better to ‘lead’ by our example than it is to ‘lead’ by imposing our self-righteous mandates.

China has repeatedly violated human rights, killed political opponents / innocent protesters, and much more. The government shouldn’t be selling them anything that could benefit them on their violent acts and acts of aggression. Sure, it may harm the economy a small amount, but I don’t believe profit is more important than human rights.
We said Never Again after the Holocaust. After Cambodia. After Rwanda. After countless other genocides, internment camps, and atrocities. It’s time to translate remembrance into action, and hold ourselves responsible, as members of a globalized world, to looking out for our fellow humans. It’s time to call out the country that has tried - and up to this point, largely succeeded - to quietly disappear the Uyghurs. I support diplomatic solutions to working to end China’s oppression of the Uyghur population.
Although I don’t care much for Senator Rubio, I feel his S178, the UIGHUR act is a starting point, more than likely an attempt to burnish his foreign policy resume credentials for the future. The thought that our executive branch is “negotiating” during a sensitive time is a tough lie to swallow when the ‘sensitive time’ is yet another self created obstacle. The only time our executive branch is not shooting itself in the foot is when it’s reloading. Only by supporting what’s right for humanity will we regain a small portion of the respect that we have through our own stupidity as a nation thrown away. Let’s also remember that leading by example is far more meaningful than saying one thing while doing another.

Why does America need to give China any technology? I don’t believe that we should
The USA needs no excuse to block giving technology to China. Just another question to support Socialism.
The US should be careful of any tech sold or shipped to China or their surrogates. Not only because they may using it against their religious minorities but will use it against us as well.
We should never weigh the benefits or penalties when considering supporting human rights. There is a greater good that needs to be our priority regardless of the parties involved. Further we cannot be a beacon of hope around the world while ignoring the atrocities being committed in this country. We need to walk the walk not just talk the talk.
The hypocrisy is simply staggering. The AMERICAN Indians who spent a freezing winter out on the plains, attacked by mercenaries hired by Big Polluters with attack dogs and fire hoses, are still in jail and the new pipeline has already had two massive leaks. The Hispanic children the Administration has “lost,” given up to adoption, or left in jail, is “unable to be accurately counted.” Americans have come to accept the thousands of Americans killed by poorly trained and militarized police. The list of horrors perpetrated by our corporate controlled government is endless!
Technology exports should be banned to any country in the interest of national security. An example that concerns me is the sharing of smart bomb parts to Saudis Arabia so they can manufacture for USA. Why wasn’t these manufactured in USA creating jobs, protecting quality of parts, & preventing a shortage if Saudis use as leverage? I see problems ahead.
We should stop all technological aid to China. We shouldn’t be doing any business with them. They are an oppressive regime and very dangerous.
Things like this should always be blocked. Hey, how about cleaning up our own human rights atm?
