senate Bill S. 1741

Should a Special Counsel be Entitled to a Judicial Review of Their Firing?

Argument in favor

This bill would help protect the integrity of investigations carried out by a special counsel by shielding them from wrongful termination and ensuring they can request a legal review of their firing.

No one, including the president, is above the law. Investigations like Mueller’s need to be able to operate without fear of getting fired. Such an action would severely disrupt the investigation as well as call into question the integrity of the entire government.

There should be absolute protection of the American people by protecting the Special Counsel. Republican Doublespeak usually means the name of a bill is its opposite, but this seems to be truly bipartisan and to protect checks and balances to me. May we soon be able to trust our elected representatives in Washington DC to serve the people, to serve freedom, to serve justice, to serve equality, to protect the poor, the ill, the disabled, the people of color, the so-called minorities, and all immigrants from classism, racism, injustice, profiteering, catering to the corporatocracy and kleptocracy. May we be a beacon of love, of peace, of equality, and compassion. May we have a president who serves the good of all and not the profit of the few.

To do otherwise would be to allow in a sense a dictator to decide if he has done anything wrong. As he controls all around him, the outcome would be a forgone conclusion-no need to ask. If a special counsel goes in with the idea that it will be off with their heads should they not come to an acquittal, they will find no evidence to the contrary and the special counsel becomes moot.

Argument opposed

There’s no need for these procedures to be put in place, as any administration that fires a special counsel under murky circumstances would be politically damaged to the point of impeachment.

The fact that this bill has even been introduced is frightening to me, as it should be to all American citizens. Unless Robert Mueller 'stood in the middle of 5th Avenue in NYC and shot someone', he should be left alone and allowed to do his job. The current campaign to discredit him and his investigation is deplorable. We should expect more from our representatives. VOTE NO on this stupid bill and get all members of Congress to do their jobs and protect this democracy. This should be unnecessary. The fact that it has even been drafted is chilling.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) States “Our constitutional order depends on a system of checks and balances, grounded in the fundamental premise that no one is above the law.” Really? Because it sure appears Hillary Clinton was/is above the law, getting away with so many infractions that would have placed the average citizen or military member in Leavenworth. Your situational ethics bewilder me. Also what exactly does “judicial review” mean? The DC circuit court? Or would someone undercut A Presidents’s Constitutional authority and run off to file a silly suit with the Uber-Liberal 9th circuit? All you Dems & Libs see is stopping Trump. Instead you should read the Constitution and realize whatever is passed could one day thwart a President you like. But that is the difference between you and me; as an Independent thinker, I do not let hate color my politics.

We know what is happening with the Mueller Special Counsel Investigation. The news media sadly is not covering the corruption in the FBI and DOJ at the highest level. The Collusion is between the FBI and DOJ. Former FBI Director Comey and DOJ gave a free pass to crooked Hillary. Special Counsels can be conducting investigations in a Bias way and people will never know. I strongly believe the Muller investigation should be shut down. It is a waste of Taxpayers money. The investigation should not be a fishing expedition as we have seen so far in recent indictments that have nothing to do with “Campaign Collusion”. The Democrats cleverly used the “Collusion” crap as a tool to destroy the Trump presidency. Shameful!

Please support the Special Counsel Integrity Act. Investigators shouldn’t be able to be fired by those they are investigating! Can individual citizens fire police officers and detectives who charge them with a crime? No? Then neither should the president.

Of course we the American people need this to be law. We can no longer hope that the integrity of our elected officials is enough. Look at the President conflict of interest is a joke for him. He violates this everyday. All our senators and congressmen sell their votes and it is not for the good of the people but for their own personal gain. It is truly sickening and the leader of the pack is the president who was suppose to drain the swamp. Instead he just made a bigger and nastier swamp. De-gutting our agencies that were established to protect the public from big company greed now they can do as they please. Yes we do need these law in place. To assure the American people that we are still a government run by laws for everyone and no one is above the law.

If I believed that Trump would be impeached for firing Mueller, I'd say this bill was unnecessary. Unfortunately, we have a Republican party complicit in his criminal incompetence, a Democratic party with no spine, and a rabid base of defenders who are incapable of thinking their boy can do anything wrong. So here we are.

Yes. It makes no sense for a special counsel who is investigating the President to also be at risk of being fired by that same President especially not without due process. Mueller should be protected from the authoritarian tendencies of this administration.

It is beyond the pale that we would need to document any such rule if not for this imbecile of a president. Mr. Mueller is beyond reproach in his investigation! What we should be reviewing is the instructions to Congress after the findings are released and just how this administration will be dealt with.

Special counsel is a vital part of our system of checks and balances and protecting them from wrongful termination is absolutely called for. Why appoint them in the first place if we don't want the investigation to be handled fairly?

This bill is a great example of what is wrong in America. No person or department should be in fear of losing their job for performing their responsibilities ethically. This bill is reactive, rather than proactive. We need to create policy that states that the Executive Branch or current administration cannot unethically terminate persons because the results of their work may prove that the President or his administration is performing unethical acts or practices. We need ethics in our policies and in our personal lives.

Please vote to strengthen the Special Counsel and prevent presidential abuses of power. Its highly likely now that some elected officials will go as far as they can, and norms are no longer a safeguard. Please support this bill and prevent future presidential abuses of power.

Thom Tillis. Too little to late. We see that you’re only attempting to to keep your job next November. Did you vote yes on your wealth care scam? Are you going to vote with the rest of the scums on cutting social security, Medicare and Medicaid? Yes? Fuck you.

Special counsels like most people in government serve at the pleasure of the president. Mueller as a blind man could see has used his position for a political witch hunt, for nothing but to keep the president from implementing his agenda period. To date no collusion has been found! This probe does nothing but weaken the office of the president and set a dangerous precedent.
