senate Bill S. 1591

Should Congress Rescind Trump’s Executive Order for ‘Mass Deportations’?

Argument in favor

Mass deportation of unauthorized immigrants is a recurring threat from the Trump administration. This threat, empty or not, strikes fear into immigrant communities and distracts from the real issues (such as people who pose a legitimate threat to communities). Rescinding the Executive Order on Interior Enforcement would help mitigate these fears.

I expect trump to start wearing a black hat, dark cape and an evil twisted handlebar mustache, like those silent movies filmed in black and white, as he ties defenseless immigrants across train tracks - waiting for the steam locomotive to ‘solve’ his ‘immigration problem’ as he laughs hysterically. Bullies like pushing around defenseless people because it is hard for them to defend themselves and they are easy targets. Certainly this is easier that actually catching all the drug lords, cartel enforcers, crazed gang members and human traffickers that the evil one assured us were streaming though our Southern border. Too hard to catch? Did you lie, Donny? Stop this insane war on peace loving, hard working and taxpaying immigrants. Just stop. We don’t seem to have any white hat good guys willing to stand up to you and thwart your villainy- but one day, hopefully soon, they will.

Friedrich tRump, DT’s grandfather, came on a ship to this country in 1885 as an unaccompanied minor. He came from a poor family, spoke no English, didn’t have a high school diploma, had no skills, and not a penny to his name. 134 years later, his grandson would have him deported.

If we had a reasonable system for legal entry we would not have so many people to deport. What we need is a path to citizenship for dreamers. We need more judges to process all the deportation cases that are now before the courts. We need to stop bringing babies (can’t believe this even needs to be said) before the courts to explain their rights to them. We need to keep families together.

Argument opposed

The Trump administration is well within its rights to exercise executive authority to set immigration policy. This includes using executive actions like the Executive Order on Interior Enforcement to set a policy prioritizing the deportation of unauthorized immigrants who commit crimes or carrying out mass deportations.

Those who have been given deportation orders need to be removed. And those who are here illegally should be deported until they get their proper paperwork done to come to this country. They should not be allowed to cut in line all the people who are doing it correctly.

Illegal! What’s so hard to understand. And they have committed other crimes while here illegally. Just because you don’t like President Trump don’t act dumb. They are here illegally and should be deported just like Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama said! Just because it’s coming from President Trump is not a reason to get all ‘holier than thou.’ Illegal is still illegal and they should go and work on a legal way to immigrate.

Remember...these unauthorized persons do pay taxes and are minuscule part of total population. We have to override POTUS’ blatant xenophobic behavior.

If Congress wants to take action, they should do so by passing laws to enact immigration reform (as the Constitution allows). Congress shouldn’t act just to undermine the President, which seems to be their only motivation of late.

The Trump administration is well within its rights to exercise executive authority to set immigration policy. This includes using executive actions like the Executive Order on Interior Enforcement to set a policy prioritizing the deportation of unauthorized immigrants who commit crimes or carrying out mass deportations. Those who have been convicted of any criminal offense. Those who have been charged with any criminal offense, where the charge has not been resolved. Those who have committed acts that constitute a chargeable criminal offense. Those who have engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation in connection with any official matter or application before a government agency. Those who have abused any program related to the receipt of public benefits. Those who are subject to a final order of removal but have not departed. Those who in the judgment of an immigration officer, otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security. For example, Alexander Mazin, 27, was shot and killed in a San Diego parking lot in February 2018. The suspected shooter, Ernesto Castellanos Martinez, was reported to be the ex-boyfriend of the women Mazin had recently started dating and a twice-deported unauthorized immigrant. After killing Mazin, he fled to Mexico. In another case in Houston in 2015, Spencer Golvach was shot and killed by an unauthorized immigrant at a traffic light. His mother, Julie Golvach, said in a January 2019 on "Fox & Friends" that the unauthorized immigrant crisis only seems "manufactured" to Democratic leadership because "they are sitting safely behind walls." She said that "for those of us out in regular America, we are victims, we are prone to the victimization of illegal aliens and crime." The Center for Immigration Studies, an organization that advocates for reduced immigration rates, reports that non-citizen households, including unauthorized immigrant households, access public services at a higher rate (63%) than native households (35%). Using Census Bureau data, the CIS noted that compared to native households, non-citizen households have much higher uses of food programs (45% vs. 21% for natives) and Medicaid (50% vs. 23% for natives) in particular.

The executive branch is charged with executing faithfully the laws of the land. POTUS is doing that. It’s a shame that it must occur via executive action since Congress has increasingly hamstrung law enforcement.

Absolutely NOT. If the citizens of America want a Dem from Nevada running the country, we would have voted for the Dem candidate in 2016. Remember America first, let Trump do what he does best, don’t pay attention to the left, Dems misrepresentations and violence inciting rhetoric. Trump 2020. Build the Wall

If people are here illegally then they should be given an opportunity to leave on their own volition. If they choose to ignore the opportunity then they should be apprehended and removed forcibly.

The fact is that this issue is Congress' fault. They refuse to do their job and address the illegal immigration problem we have. I am really not interested in the excuses for passing this bill. The bottom line is that the law is being broken. Either change the law or make a decision on how to handle it. Until then, the law should be followed.

trump can’t be trusted to stick to his own executive order. He will abuse the order and manipulate it to do whatever he wants. This is what narcissists do. We need to protect the American way from trump.

This a country that is supposed to welcome immigrants, not incite fear into their communities. Crossing the border illegally is a misdemeanor and not worth tracking down someone and deporting them! These are just people who are trying create a better life for themselves and their families. Trump’s draconian executive order is not what this country is. Focus on undocumented immigrants who are violent offenders, not ones who’s only crime is jaywalking!
