senate Bill S. 1397

Should the Obama Admin’s Southwestern Rifle Sales Reporting Initiative End?

Argument in favor

The Obama administration overreached and violated gun buyers’ rights by requiring additional reports by the ATF on purchasers who buy two or more rifles with certain characteristics in southwestern border states. Congress is right to end that regulation.

Shall not be infringed. Government doesn’t need to know.

Argument opposed

The regulation that this bill would repeal was part of the Obama administration’s effort to keep assault rifles out of the hands of “straw buyers” that purchase them in the U.S. and then sell them to drug cartels in Mexico. It should stay in effect.

As a matter of truer fact, this Reporting mechanism should be extended to cover the entire Country. Don’t we all deserve to be safe from gun violence?

How much of a coward do you have to be to think sensible guns laws infringe on your rights?

It sickens me that we continue to place the profits of the gun lobby ahead of the lives of our children.

What is wrong with you PEOPLE??? Guns need MORE CONTROL, NOT LESS. Do you not understand more people in this country have been killed by people who shouldn’t have HAD guns than soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan. That might as well be equated to a Holocaust on the people of our country by the NRA & THE REPUBLICAN CONGRESS.

You’ve got to be kidding?! We need to stop letting guns get into the hands of criminals! Also, this requirement should be present in all states not just the border states.

Absolutely not. It may be a right for Americans to own guns but it is also a right for Americans to be safe from crazies with guns. Reasonable gun laws to protect Americans is not a lot to ask. Responsible gun owners would have no fear of this law continuing.

All gun sales should be tracked and reported upon. I’m a voter and a mother in Ohio’s 12th congressional district and I strongly oppose this bill.

This is about smuggling guns across the border. How about doing something that will actually secure our border, like building the wall.

Obviously Gailnability has heard of neither the 1st or 2nd Amendment, since she is willing to abort both in silencing the NRA on her pursuit of gun control. This is why Progressives should never gain control of ANYTHING! They care not about our Constitution or civil liberties unless it is engineered to benefit them.

As with the 3-D printer gun issue I think in this day and age if you buy that type of weapons then there should be a report of it. If the weapon is not used in a crime you have not a thing to fear, but if it is they can track it.

The government doesn’t need this information. The more they track guns the more it is probable they will misuse the information.

He’ll NO! They should be extended to every single state and territory. Sensible gun safety laws need to be passed and enforced like the current administration is doing with minorities, who are citizens and non-citizens. If they can demand ID from them, then the MUST demand proof for guns.

We do not need a useless wall. This bill was to prevent drug cartels from getting US guns form sellers in those states

I do not view a semi-automatic rifle as a hunting weapon, hunting for dear and such that is. Hunting is generally a sport of skill not of luck. If you can't make the kill shot on game in one shot you shouldn't be out hunting in the first place. Lol!

Yes, definitely anything Obama should end. We can’t afford the policies of the failed Obama administration. If you want to regulate something deadly, put more stringent regulations on who can own and drive a motor vehicle. Increase regulations on doctors and pharmacies, as the death toll from prescription drugs continue to skyrocket. Let’s address the most deadly first.
