Do Prescribers Need Additional Training to Reduce Reliance on Prescription Painkillers?
Argument in favor
Healthcare workers who would prescribe controlled substances need ongoing training to safely do their job. Requiring the completion of training when prescribers receive or renew their registration makes sense.

Painkillers kill more and more people a year.. If you are going to prescribe it you should be very up to date on all the problems it can cause down the road, & it should be your last resort.

this is only the first step the next step is to rid us of them their has to be a better way to treat chronic pain these pills are the worst and just think they cure nothing

Yes, because they may not have had personal, familial, or social experience with the ramifications of the harm these substances can cause.

Prescribers shouldn’t be required to undergo training in alternatives to dispensing controlled substances in order to write prescriptions for painkillers. Hospitals and clinics should be able to require this training of their own accord.

Opiates has been around for centuries. Doctors are taught in medical school about the addictive ability of opiates- painkillers. Doctors are also required to have bi-yearly/yearly continuing education classes. Doctors may need armed security or pack a weapon for safety against demanding patients seeking painkillers.

How about if 'big pharma' were constrained from pushing their dope through bribes and incentives and let the doctors decide who needs what.
Those of us who need opiates for chronic pain are having a more difficult time because doctors are frightened. Let physicians do what they can to help.
It is not the prescribers responsibility. The person taking the drug is the sole person responsible

Every healthcare organization has insurance, and an associated risk management group. The risk people would require training or review of alternatives to addictive pain medications if patients or providers were finding themselves in trouble. Government must stop sticking its nose in every opening it finds.
Why does Congress feel it has to get involved in something that is best handled by those who are in the best position to train healthcare workers?
Prescription painkillers are a public health crisis at this point. We need to reassess how and when they are prescribed.
Painkiller addiction is an ever growing problem for millions of Americans. Not addressing this issue in our hospitals, and pharmacies, will only continue to let this problem fester.
As someone with chronic pain, having my doctor take another class about painkillers is kind of dumb. I'm sorry that Alene, Tylenol, aspirin and the other NSAs don't touch my arthritis pain, but they don't. If I can't take an effective painkiller, I can't even get out of bed in the mornings. I resent people thinking they have all the answers when they have never experienced the relentless pain that I have for years. And guess what, my pain levels only increase, they don't decrease.
At som point we need to take responsibility for our own actions.

Yes, but they need to learn more about what they are prescribing in general. Not just painkillers. I believe this should be stressed more during medical training. Im not confident that all medical professionals with the authority to prescribe know or care about what they are giving people.
United States Labor force is seriously over worked. It's not so much injury but worn out body parts that is the cause of pain killer usage. Were I work heavy lifting & repetition w/not enough staff is management goal. Do more work w/less & less staff. Back/Knees shoulders wrist all start to crash.Ppl have to work bc pay is so behind actual cost of living eating & caring for family. This problem is only going to get worse as next group of abused labor force begins to fail. I already go thru all types of requirements to get my pain Med needs. More hoops at my cost will not change 1 damn thing, other than another Dr visit & cost which I can not afford. The Corp I work for is a Billion💵 business. Yet this year they found a loop hole in mim wage law to lower my pay by $1ph. That $35 a week less, mim wage for Billionaire to pay
