This bill would allow manufacturers of consumer products to publish their warranties electronically — rather than providing printed copies in the packaging of the product.
A description of how to access the warranty must be clearly included on the product’s packaging, so that consumers could review the terms. The company's website address, mailing address, and phone number would also have to be included.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) would have one year to revise the rules to comply with this legislation. The FTC could revise the rules without giving interested persons the chance to receive a presentation on the rules — if doing so would delay the rule change.
