senate Bill S. 1332

Preventing Foodborne Illness From Poultry, Meat, and Eggs

Argument in favor

The government needs to update the regulations that ensure contaminated food products are not sold to people in the U.S. Private profit-driven food companies don't care about getting people sick, but the government should.

I quit eating poultry after getting sick on chicken many times. Congress passing the law so that we don't know where meat originates put the nail in the coffin. I no longer eat meat--unless I buy it from a farmer directly. Our food system needs attention. QUICKLY!

Absolutely! If a country sells a tainted product that might harm American consumers, a ban on their product should be enforced. No salmon or chicken from China!

This is first world/3rd world stuff. What kind of country do you want to live in? Me, I don't want to live in Somalia. No offense to Somalians.

Argument opposed

All the labeling in the world won't protect every person in the U.S. from foodborne illnesses. Things like E. Coli and Salmonella are impossible to completely control. Tighter contamination laws would only heavily burden meat and egg producers.

The US just passed a law allowing meat to no longer have country of origin labels. Why make US companies jump through hoops if you're not willing to make foreign countries do the same? Canada still requires country of origin labels on their meat.

No amount of government bureaucracy can change how a disease acts. Focus on things you can change or reinforce.

This is stupid. Oversight would cost a fortune and with. The fines imposed it would be nothing short of a revenue witch hunt.

We destroyed the tomato crop in California because of a small cilantro contamination in Mexico. We are doing a similar thing to the egg and chicken and turkey business right now. Doesn't that suggest we are zealous enough and sufficiently empowered with regulation and inspection already?

These dirtbags just removed country of origin labeling on your meat so that the big companies can send their wares over to the slave camps (China) for processing. You really think they give a DAMN about your food safety?

Start making them grade their eggs better, too. Have you seen a jumbo egg lately. Should be labeled peanut size.

Get them out of this regulatory busness. This is a tax that no government rep voted for. This is the exact reason we rebelled against England.

How much will this cost? Looking to the past we have an extremely safe food supply. Regulations in existence now are doing a good job. We don't need to spend more money on a successful endeavor. We need to balance the budget

Isn't it their job to have unscheduled inspections to make sure the food is safe for human consumption. With all those chemicals they fed the animals which is what is causing people to get sick. Then they will say list of things that cause Cancer. Do your jobs. Just my opinion
