house Bill H. Res. 908

Should the House Condemn Anti-Asian Sentiment Related to the Coronavirus Pandemic?

Argument in favor

Anti-Asian rhetoric has gotten out of hand during the coronavirus pandemic, including from public officials. The House of Representatives should go on record opposing such rhetoric even if it's in the form a vote on a non-binding resolution.

The trump looking for someone to blame for his inability to lead our country through the pandemic (or his disinterest in working on anything that does not directly help himself) has resulted in his blaming China. He f$@ked up, not China. It us a shame that the trump’s need to blame China has resulted in Asian citizens being disparaged by his cult followers. The trump encourages and underwrites racist attacks by his words and examples. A public declaration by the House helps those disparaged that that is not the opinion of the country- just a few trumpublican asswipes. It costs nothing and it us the right thing to do.

I expect my elected officials to stand up against racism, hate and prejudice of any kind . I have often wondered why some are comfortable looking the other way

Why this would even need to be a debate, I’m not sure? Clearly this sort of divisive, hateful language should be condemned! This has to be the easiest decision one should make.

Argument opposed

There is no question that anti-Asian rhetoric related to the coronavirus pandemic is out of line and should be condemned, but the House passing a non-binding resolution won’t have a serious impact.

How is this anything but a waste of time and money? A task force to do what exactly? Turn public opinion around. Good luck!

The House needs to focus on prioritizing relevant actions, not continue to politicize partisan rhetoric and usurp democracy.

Might as well be discriminating against the bats. What good does it do? The USA LEADS THE WORLD in infections and deaths. We have no one to blame for that outcome but Heir Lying Incompitant and his spineless GOP dogs who LIED TO EVERYONE. 90% of the dead could have been prevented if it had been taken seriously from the start. The majority of the economic impact too.

Given that anti-Asian sentiments are usually directed at US citizens and that Korean American, Philippino American, Japanese Americans, Vietnamese American etc are in fact not Chinese which is where the gripe is provided you’re taken in by the fearful leader, it makes no sense to attack or berate your fellow citizens because of their ancestry. They have a word for that. RACISM Now I don’t generally believe in the usefulness of non binding resolutions, but in this case I feel it’s past time for the government to loudly discourage this type of activity and stop blaming any country for this pandemic. What good does the blame do anyway? Does it make it go away? No. If we’re going to blame countries for outbreaks, it’s time to change the Spanish Flu to the US flu as here is where it started.

Why are you people even voting on this? Who the hell started this BS? It is not for you to say. Dick is making fun of Jane because she has a pimple on her nose. Let’s ban all Dicks! Seriously, this is how all this stupidity sounds. Go do a grownup job like maybe trying to actually help people who need help. Oh, that’s right. Silly me, I forgot it’s all about YOU!

We should not tolerate racism in any form. Anti-Asian racism has already resulted in violence against Asians.

I condemn everything the house says or does. I dont give two shits what do nothings do. They are an island of themselves. Ignore them till they go away. You call Panda Express 'Chinese Food.' That's an insult and you should be condemned.

Liberals/Democrats trying to shift the blame of the Chinese caused virus is right out of their crybaby playbook. Blame someone, anyone, they hate for what they cannot accept. Shifting blame onto Trump instead of where it belongs is just part of the leftist denial game. Leftists try to blame Russia for everything, regardless of no evidence, so why shouldn't we place blame where it b belongs? We KNOW that this is Chinese-caused. It has nothing to do with racism. Call it for what it is. Harsh truth or not, it's fact.

We are a nation of immigrants, including Asians. Some of my best friends are of Asian descent. I have been told by them they have on occasion experienced racism directly traceable to the President’s words. It really pisses me off. I’m insulted we even have to have a vote on something as basic as this, demanding decency from our public officials. Yet, in Trump World, here we are.

I know that I’m late to the party here, it’s already been voted on. But the fact that the house even had the idea to vote on not harassing people with an Asian background because of covid 19 is an indication of the stupidity of trump and many of the citizens of this nation. I am totally ashamed. I find myself less and less able to look at an American flag with any type of respect. To me it represents hatred, pig-headedness, arrogance, and that ugly type of pride.
