Does Congress Need to Support Georgia Against Russian Aggression?

Russia’s actions during its invasion of Georgia and its attempts to undermine the ceasefire need to be condemned, and the U.S. should strengthen its ties with Georgia to help it defend itself.

I would just like to note for everyone who says things like "we have our own problems...this is not our responsibility...why should we worry about Georgia, Russia, etc." We have a Domestic Policy and Foreign Policy and these are NOT competing interests. Please consider the actual pros and cons of Foreign Policy issues and don't simply dismiss efforts like this because we have unrelated internal problems.

Maybe not with out right military involvement, but Russia continuing to re draw its boundaries must be taken as the aggressive action it is.

How about Congress sends support to its own citizens instead of getting involved with sticky and unfavorable situations around the world because your own country is wrecking itself on the inside, our economy is in shambles, our national debt looks like it's never going to be settled, our people are in poverty or being racially discriminated against, our wars have left unstable regimes in its wake, we have our own problems and have caused many other people problems with our own foreign policy. I understand that we have a position in world politics that we should not take for granted, but at the same time, don't take we the people for granted either. Besides, Russia is not afraid of the United States, just because we "condemn" them doesn't mean they'll stop, pack up, and go home. Don't make this a United States thing, make this a UN thing or a NATO thing to pack some heat, we are not really the number one global superpower and global police of the world anymore, as of right now, look at us, look at your own citizens on the streets, look at your students not being able to get proper healthcare or living in poverty, look at the divide that this election has brought this country. Look at us, not just the 1% part of us before you vote yes.

We need to stop getting entangled in foreign affairs. This isn't the cold war anymore. They aren't spreading communism or any other hateful ideology (Islamism) so we need to stay out of it. We should what? Threaten nuclear war over Georgia or Ukraine? You are incompetent if you believe that.

When a nation begins to show aggression toward neighboring countries, we need to take interest, to maintain a balance of power in the world. There's no reason Russia needs to invade Georgia. Now that Russia is becoming more powerful again, it's going after the countries it lost when Gorbachev stepped down as Communist leader. When will Russia stop? When will it become our problem? Isolationism never helped us.
It's not our governments job to provide military aid to foreign nations, especially when our country is hurting for money.
The United States has no right and no reason to get involved in these affairs. If congress feels so strongly that there needs to be intervention, there are avenues such as the United Nations designed to handle these exact scenarios. Congress needs to stop worrying about international intervention opportunities and focus on the plethora of domestic issues waiting to be addressed.
I vote no because Mr. Putin would like nothing more than to taunt and embarrass our weak and ineffective President. Another "Line in the sand" speech moment. Look at the Chinese not putting out a red carpet/steps and the Philippine presidents name calling to see how we are respected on the world stage. It's a shame to see OUR country treated like this.
Some will argue that U.S. Russia relations are too important and already too strained to add Georgia to the list of problems. The United States needs Russia to help resolve the crisis in Syria, and Georgia should not come in the way of those efforts. Moreover, they will claim, there is little the United States can do if Moscow decides to move militarily into or against Georgia. It is in U.S. interests to maintain strong support for Georgia, as well as other countries bordering Russia. Doing so will preserve their sovereignty and territorial integrity and support their efforts to develop into democratic, market-oriented societies more integrated into the Euro-Atlantic community. Putin exploits weakness and wavering; he understands and respects strength, and that is the face the United States should show.
We have problems here at home. It's sad to see war bloom. We cannot be by everyone's side during the pains of regional conflict. my heart says yes. but i feel we can reach a diplomatic solution were we can all prosper, and where war is not inflicted where it does not need to be. Nations like the US and Russia have giant tables where we can talk. Georgia needs Table time and involvement.

Calling it "aggression" is misleading when they've been fighting for so long. It's more complex than that. This isn't an issue and committing troops or money is wasteful
It's time to stop interventionism, strengthen our trade relationships by ending sanctions and repealing tariffs, and reduce our spending dramatically to begin reducing debt.
Russia is intent on rebuilding the Soviet Union and to under mine western influence across the world. Vladimir Putin is an autocratic dictator controlling an autocratic government in Russia and something needs to be done before for world war three breaks out. Which will happen if allow governments like Russia get away with the things that they are doing.
