Condemning the March 2016 Terrorist Attacks on Brussels, Belgium

Argument in favor

America needs to show its solidarity with Belgium in the aftermath of the attacks in Brussels and offer whatever support it can provide in stopping ISIL.

“ISIS is a disgusting, barbaric organization. We’ve seen what they’ve done in Paris, what they’ve done in Brussels. People are afraid of an attack in the United States. But I think what we have to understand is we’re not going to undermine the Constitution of the United States of America in order to effectively destroy ISIS... “At the end of the day, we cannot allow the Trumps of the world to use these incidents to attack all of the Muslim people in the world... To imply that if somebody is a Muslim they’re a terrorist, that is an outrageous statement.” [thedailybeast.com]

"The American people stand with the people of Brussels. We will do whatever it takes, working with nations and peoples around the world, to bring the perpetrators of these attacks to justice, and to go after terrorists who threaten our people." [whitehouse.gov]

Let's address the elephant in the room. When you let in Syrian "refugees", you get terror attacks. Let's make sure this doesn't happen by not letting a single one in and honor the dead by preventing it from happening ever again.

Argument opposed

Condemning terrorist attacks — even in the “strongest possible terms” — won’t do anything of substance to combat the threat of ISIL.

Just condemn it! Why is legislation necessary? Pass a budget! Do something useful. This is legislative idiocy!

We all condemn the terrorist attacks, but this is meaningless. Try doing something of substance. Your inaction says little more than what a useless bunch of people we have in DC. TERM LIMITS!

Even though voting to condemn these terrorist attacks does not amount to bringing justice to the victims, it still sends a message to the rest of the world and more specifically Belgium that we stand with them. There is value, especially to the victims, to receive support from the world community.

Really you have to vote on this why aren't we voting where we attack and which countries we are going to ask to join or get out of the way?

How many more of these attacks need to happen before we stop "condemning" these acts of terrorism and actually do something to "keep" them from happening in the first place?

How many innocent people have to die before we destroy ISIS? The longer they wait the longer they have time to plan on an attack on the US. The problem MUST be dealt with. My condolences to the people of Brussels. They are all in my prayers.

Yes of course, our war on terrorism must be ramped up, this is as much as a threat as the Soviet Union was during the Cold War

While it's crucial to condemn the horrible attacks that occurred in Belgium, congress must also condemn that horrific attacks that have occurred on innocent Muslims in places that receive little to no headlines. This is not a "one religion" problem, it's a global problem.

Condemn is fine. We don't need to fund the investigations though. They are their own country and have there own banks.

NO! It is the Executive's prerogative to conduct foreign policy -- to condemn, laud, to make agreements, and the like. Congress should stay out of this area.

A Congressional condemnation is not going to change anything ...unless attached to a declaration of war. Don't waste the time of the people focus instead on things that will make a real difference.

If the good folks in Congress want to express support, they should use Twitter. I'm not interested in employing people to spend time doing what they ought to do on their own time.

Words won't hurt them. An Obama strategy will not suffice. Words hurt someone only if they think they are a victim, Obama isn't their President, therefore they are not victims. Do something substantial.
