house Bill H. Res. 569

Does the House Need to Condemn Anti-Muslim Sentiment?

Argument in favor

It may be a simple gesture, but the House should condemn anti-Muslim sentiment. Speaking out against hate crimes and speech affirm American Muslim rights.

Regardless of whether this would improve the day to day life of American Muslims, I think it is important to let the country, world and presidential candidates that Congress is opposed to religious discrimination.

Argument opposed

This is ridiculous piece of legislation — the law already protects freedom of religion. Congress should spend their time debating bills with actual substance.

Stop wasting time and money! Laws are already in place! This group deserves no more attention than Christians and other faith groups! Stop over-stepping and start doing things like bringing manufacturing back to US soil and going after Islamic Cowards who are hell bent on destroying our Nation and way of life! How about going back to historical Constitutional law that once made America great and Stop killing us with immoral decisions. How about firing this anti American, anti Constitution President! Please cut him off by removing the pen and finances! It is time! The American people are getting tied and restless! It's time!

Think of this as a "put me in their shoes" issue. If Christians were having hate crimes committed against them, wouldn't they ask Congress to condemn the attacks? The over generalizations of all Muslims being terrorist is the reason for this mass islamiphobia. Christians have the same capacity to do the same.

You would think that everyone knows religious bigotry is illegal and immoral....But it seems necessary to remind us all YET AGAIN. Thank you Donald Trump and his fellow travelers for making this bill important.

Violence against anyone of ANY religion is a crime and ought to be condemned. HOWEVER, FREE SPEECH IS NOT A CRIME; NOR IS DISLIKING A RELIGION OR THE PEOPLE WHO USE THEIR RELIGION TO COMMIT JIHAD, WHO CONSIDER THEIR SHARIAH LAW TO TAKE PRECEDENT OVER OUR CONSTITUTION, AND/OR WHO WANT TO TURN THE UNITED STATES INTO A MUSLIM CALIPHATE!

Anti-Muslin sentiment comes about with US citizens when Muslin turn to terrorism and hate. Islam is a religion of hate and enslavement of non-muslins. They use rape and mob like behavior to intimidate peaceful citizens into allowing their expansion of Sharia Law. Islam is not a religion. It's a Cult. This is why the world shunned them from the advancing into most peaceful civilizations. But the world is waking up to Muslin expansion paid for by duped supporters of peaceful nations.

Hate speech is protected under the 1st Amendment. "Hate crimes?" If it's a crime, there's already legislation in place. This smacks of favoritism of one religion over all the rest.

Religious freedom is central to the existence of the United States. Puritans, Quakers, and other "Dissenters" came to the U.S. in search of a place to live without being persecuted for their beliefs. If we are to give into the fear of different religions and ban certain beliefs and ideals or exclude other people because of them, then we can no longer call America the land of the free. Our leaders have a responsibility to set the tone of the conversation around freedom from and to religion.

A house statement on this issue will provide no real impact in terms of this situation, as news media will not cover the statements, as it's not interesting enough for them to cover.

It's not ok to associate people with the stigmas associated with their various races, or sex, or any other difference. And it's especially not ok for the government to do so. They're supposed to be better than us. Vengeance and hatred are not what this government should ever partake in. It's petty and small minded.

This is ridiculous, PC propaganda and gets nothing done. How about we fight the War on Terror correctly to show the people at home that the bad guys are already dealt with. Also, why just Muslims? You don't see a bill against anti-Christian sentiment.

Free speech is free speech. Also, chew on this, most Muslims are not terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslim. So Americans have every right to have an anti Muslim sentiment.

It's not right there to blame an entire religious group on account of a minority of radicals within the said religion.

Only if they also come out and condemn anit-Christian or anit-Jewish or what ever other religion. This is the slippery slope towards the world where NO ONE can say anything that muslims do not like and the muslims are the final judge about what offends them.
