Does Congress Need to Commit to Addressing Climate Change?

While it doesn’t actually call for the implementation of these policies, this bill lays out a path forward for Congress to act on climate change. It acknowledges both the needs of the U.S. economy and the need for current generations to be responsible stewards of the environment.

Argument opposed
First of all, this resolution doesn’t offer any specific policies to address the problem, so it’s pretty much meaningless. But it also makes numerous assumptions about the causes and effects of climate change, and doesn’t adequately weigh the cost to the economy of taking action.

Do not sacrifice a single penny on this Marxist hoax. And stop calling it Climate Change now that Global Warming has been proven bogus. The climate changes every day. You cannot predict the weather 2 hours from now, but you expect us to believe you can predict it 20 years from now when every single Global Warming model has been completely wrong.

In my lifetime, I have bore witness to effects that are generally classified as "climate change." Since Congress's inception, we have drained swamps, diverted water, deforested huge swaths of land & even planted non-indigenous flora to make Washington D.C. more habitable & enjoyable. It turns out that these feats of engineering & American ingenuity have had repercussions on the environment we live in - some good, some bad. This legislation simply asks Congress to recognize that the environments Americans live in are rapidly changing -- not just for our own sake or our children's but their children's & all future generations of Americans. Let's innovate our way to a better tomorrow!
To deny climate change is to deny the facts. The only ones denying climate change are basically one political party, and a very small handful of scientists. Look at the evidence, look at the data. Don't let politicians and big business decide for you. The vast majority agree of the reputable scientific community agree that climate change is real; although they differ on the degree of the change, and the timetables assigned to its most dire elements. Is it really worth risking the future of our children and grandchildren by just saying (so) simply, "nah, it's just some type of politicized hoax?" On an issue so big that it is global, and knows no boundary lines, and plays no favorites, I'd rather err on the side of caution.
The commitment to our environment is crucial to the future of this and other sea bound countries.

Stupid question. But one that unfortunately needs addressing. And even if it's a hoax, how does it hurt us in the long run? Isn't it better to take care of this one habitable world rather than act like it doesn't matter? Short term financial goals will look pretty stupid when we've heated the place up to the point that everything about it changes.
So we can say the climate is changing but you cannot point to what the cause is. The planet and climate have changed a lot long before we were here!

Turns out, economies don't exist when the planet is barren.
Our environment hosts the entire human population. We haven't been treating our home with respect, as seen by our exponential dumping of wastes, creation of pollution, mild ignorance of ozone depletion, etc. The climate isn't something we can change at the last minute, it is something that needs constant nurturing and a watchful eye if we want to live on a planet with minimal dangers. By starting to focus more seriously on the environment, we are taking the first step to leading more cautious lives so future generations won't have to clean up after our mess and so we keep our symbiotic relationship between mankind and nature in good terms. Let humanity not be a parasite to this planet, but rather a catalyst to its growth and development, benefitting both us and them.

Climate change is part of the liberal agenda. Spend our time and money on our military and defense.
The current period of global warming began at the peak of the last ice age approximately 12,000 years ago. Clearly, the 12,000 years of global warming, has neither been triggered by human activity nor perpetuated by human activity. I am sad that there are those in science and politics who use global warming and the ignorance of the electorate to divert massive sums of tax dollars into this none sense. We have so many real problems that are being squeezed out of funding due to this massive abuse of the public trust and treasure.
You're scientifically illiterate if you refute the empirical evidence and research that show the threats of climate change. Congress needs to stop being so shortsighted and focus on preserving our planet instead of destroying the Middle East.
