house Bill H. Res. 413

Honoring Victims of Islamophobia in the U.S.

Argument in favor

With politicians using xenophobic rhetoric for policy proposals, recognizing victims of Islamophobia in the U.S. is as relevant today as it was in 2001. We need to show the world that our branches of government reject religious discrimination and violence.

Argument opposed

It is unfortunate Islamophobia happens — after September 11th and more recently after the Paris attacks. But in a country of more than 300 million people, why are we focusing on this small subsection of incidents that don't represent the whole country?

This is ridiculous pandering. Do we honor victims of gang violence? How about honoring victims of rape? I don't know a single criminal who violated someone's rights out of love so aren't all crimes hate crimes? Sanders is far from reasonable, climate change does not cause terrorism.

We're going to make The Untied States Congress say "our sorry" like a 5 year old when they get in trouble... grow up! This is not the legislative branch of the United States job. This falls on the individual responsibility of Americans, not politicians.

This bill is literally just PC propaganda and feel-good, and has no legitimate impact. While it's bad that Islamophobia occurs, you don't see people trying to honor Christians who are verbally attacked.

It's very sad to see that we still have to deal with racism in the United States, and with the shift of more hate towards Muslims and Hispanics. The Muslim community shouldn't have to go through racism due to a very small percentage of Muslim extremists with their very violent agenda. It's very difficult to see my Muslim friends get intimidating stares at malls and other public venues due simply to their religion and their ethnicity, this must end.

Although any form of discrimination against any group of Americans is unfortunate, I do not agree that any special governmental consideration should be given to those who have felt that they have been discriminated against. If this were to happen, then every African-American person in the country should be given this kind of recognition as well, only well before any other group! The ONLY reason this is even being considered is that "president" Obama is a Muslim, is very pro-Islamic.(and anti-Constitution) and is a ranking member of the Muslim Brotherhood, for which he and the members of his inner circle have been working since well before he was ALLEGEDLY "elected"! I strongly vote NAY on this one!

Trump is merely drawing attention to things most people can plainly recognize. Muslims who exercise only the religious aspects of Islam are very seldom radicalized. However, those who advocate a dictatorial theocracy to control everyone on earth can never be trusted. The main problem is that we cannot identify which group an individual is in until it is too late.

UPDATE: [Sen. Jeff] Sessions: More Than 570 Charged, Convicted or Connected to Terror Since 9/11; Almost All Muslims (CNSNews.com) – Sen. Jeff Sessions warned Sunday that more attacks like the one on an Orlando nightclub were likely, and disclosed that more than 570 people have been “convicted or charged or connected to terrorism” since 9/11. The Alabama Republican, who chairs the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on immigration and the national interest, told Fox News Sunday that data it had obtained so far indicated that “about two-thirds of those people that were charged were foreign born, almost all Islamic individuals.” “We see apparently today more of these attacks are coming,” Sessions said in reference to the killing early Sunday of 50 people at the Pulse nightclub. In a 911 call shortly beforehand the Muslim shooter pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL). Omar Mateen was reported to be a New York-born U.S. citizen, the son of Afghan parents. “It’s a real part of the threat that we face,” Sessions continued, “and if we can’t address it openly and directly and say directly that there is an extremist element within Islam that’s dangerous to the world and has to be confronted. We need to slow down and be careful about those we admit into the country.” Sessions, a key supporter of and advisor to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, stressed that most Muslim citizens and visitors to the United States were “not violent.” “But there clearly is a problem here.” ISIS recently called on supporters to carry out terrorist attacks in Western countries during Ramadan. The Islamic fast month, which this year began on June 7, has a history of inspiring jihadists. http://cnsnews.com/news/article/us-general-links-spike-insider-attacks-stress-ramadan-fasting Sessions and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) – who chairs another Judiciary subcommittee – have been seeking immigration status and family immigration status data from the federal government as they compile information on individuals charged or convicted of terror-related offenses. In a letter last August, Sessions and Cruz asked Attorney-General Loretta Lynch, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Secretary of State John Kerry to provide such information for 72 people identified as having connections to terrorism over a one-year period. They wrote again in December, after the Sen Bernardino attack – perpetrated by the ISIS-inspired U.S.-born son of Pakistani migrants and his Pakistani-born wife – and then again last January, this time adding a request for information relating to an additional 41 individuals, bringing the total to 113. “Of these 113 individuals, at least 14 were initially admitted to the United States as refugees,” Sessions and Cruz wrote on January 11. “Many more came through other immigration programs. A number of immigrant terrorists were even approved for citizenship. Others are the U.S.-born children of foreign migrants whose presence in the country would not be possible but for the immigration of their parents.” http://www.sessions.senate.gov/public/_cache/files/89e5265a-c9aa-47ee-9710-1fa1d3510e83/01-11-16-sessions-cruz-to-dhs-doj-state-re-terrorism-immigration.pdf “The American people are entitled to information on the immigration history of terrorists seeking to harm them,” they added. The senators asked the departments to add immigration history data to a chart on the 113 individuals, all of whom were identified between March 2014 and January 2016 as having terror associations. Of the 113, more than 80 are affiliated with ISIS, according to the data. Other affiliations include al-Qaeda affiliates including Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula, Al-Shabaab and Ansar al-Shari’a; groups that have pledged allegiance to ISIS, such as the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and Ansar al-Islam; and Hezbollah. Sessions has long raised concern about the large numbers of immigrants to the U.S. from Islamic nations. Last April, he noted that considerably more immigrants from Muslim-majority nations (about 680,000) had been given green cards over the five-year period from FY 2009-FY 2013 than immigrants from European Union nations (about 270,000). Since then, the Department of Homeland Security has released its annual Yearbook of Immigration Statistics, covering FY 2014. According to the latest yearbook, the U.S. issued green cards during FY 2014 to another 148,736 migrants from 46 Muslim-majority nations – a 26.7 percent increase from 117,336 in FY 2013. That takes to 831,221 the number of migrants from Muslim-majority countries who have received green cards between FY 2009 and FY 2014 – compared to 322,882 from European Union countries. The Muslim-majority countries accounting for the largest numbers of migrants getting green cards during FY 2014 were Iraq (19,153), Pakistan (18,612), Bangladesh (14,645), Iran (11,615), Egypt (11,477) and Afghanistan (10,527). Of the Muslim countries, the biggest increases between FY 2013 and FY 2014 applied to migrants from Afghanistan (from 2,196 to 10,527, a jump of 379 percent), from Iraq (from 9,552 to 19,153, a 100.5 percent increase), and from Pakistan (from 13,251 to 18,612, an increase of 37.6 percent). Looking back over the six year period from FY 2009-FY 2014, the Muslim countries from which most migrants issued with green cards came were: Iraq (102,172), Pakistan (101,962), Bangladesh (89,626), Iran (84,951), Egypt (56,359), Somalia (36,557), Uzbekistan (29,595), Turkey (25,984), Jordan (25,500), Morocco (25,456), Afghanistan (21,170) and Syria (17,702). According to the DHS, green card recipients may live and work permanently anywhere in the U.S., own property, attend public schools and universities, join certain branches of the armed forces, and apply to become U.S. citizens if they meet eligibility requirements. Meanwhile the federal government during FY 2014 gave permanent residence to 134,242 foreigners who had been admitted to the U.S. as refugees. Of those from Muslim-majority countries, the biggest groups came from Malaysia (7,473), Iraq (4,669), Egypt (4,200), Jordan (3,719), Turkey (3,581) and Syria (2,329). http://cnsnews.com/news/article/patrick-goodenough/sessions-more-570-charged-convicted-or-connected-terror-911-almost IT'S NOT ISLAMOPHOBIA IF THEY ARE REALLY TRYING TO KILL YOU! It is possible that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is true that most acts of terrorism are committed by Muslims. I'm TIRED of the Obama Administration's pandering to CAIR, ISNA, MAS, the Muslim Brotherhood, and other Islamic organizations! I agree with Dr. Ben Carson and everyone else who has recognized and stated publicly that Shariah Law is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution, and therefore, it would be an act of extreme folly to elect a Muslim as POTUS. Anyone who knows anything about Islam knows that its goal is to convert, kill, or enslave all non-Muslims. It is NOT a religion of peace! Muslims who say that it is are practicing taqqiyya; their religion permits them to lie to non-Muslims. Islam is a clear and present danger to America! Muslims use all kinds of jihad against us: legal jihad, cultural jihad, political jihad, educational jihad, and terrorist jihad. Their goal is to transform America into a Muslim country. For these and other reasons, it is prudent to NOT trust the Muslim communities. We should not hate them or commit crimes against them anymore than we should hate or victimize members of any other religious group in America. BUT AS MANY OTHER COUNTABLE MEMBERS HAVE POINTED OUT, IF YOU HAVE A BOWL OF M&Ms, AND SOMEONE TELLS YOU THAT SOME OF THEM ARE POISONED, YOU SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED FOR BEING TOO FEARFUL TO EAT ONE! ON THE CONTRARY, YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE SUICIDAL OR JUST PLAIN STUPID TO TAKE CHANCES WITH YOUR LIFE! I am sorry if some Muslims have been treated unjustly or unkindly for no reason other than that they are Muslims. But Muslims can surely understand that our unwillingness to trust them is a consequence of the actions of other Muslims who are, after all, only doing what the Qur'an teaches them to do! I call for a ban on Muslim immigration and surveillance of mosques! I AM TIRED OF AND FED UP WITH MUSLIM JIHADISTS AND ILLEGAL ALIENS IN MY COUNTRY, WHO ARE BRINGING DRUGS, DISEASE, AND CRIME, WHILE BEING CODDLED BY MY GOVERNMENT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE AMERICAN CITIZENS! IT'S NOT RIGHT FOR US TO HAVE TO SUFFER THIS INVASION BY PEOPLE WHO DON'T RESPECT OUR LAWS, OUR PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, OUR FLAG, OUR LANGUAGE (That's ENGLISH!), OR OUR CULTURE! AND I'M TIRED OF AND FED UP WITH HAVING TO "PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH"! WE NEED A MORATORIUM ON MUSLIM IMMIGRATION AND WE NEED TO KICK OUT ALL OF THE ILLEGAL ALIENS WHO BY DEFINITION ARE CRIMINALS! WE NEED TO MAKE OUR GOVERNMENT UNDERSTAND THAT WE DON'T WANT AMERICA TURNED INTO A THIRD WORLD CESSPOOL! I AM NOT ANTI-IMMIGRANT. I AM FOR THE RULE OF LAW. I DON'T CARE WHAT COLOR YOUR SKIN IS OR WHAT YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE IS. BUT IF YOU COME TO MY COUNTRY TO LIVE, I EXPECT YOU TO LEARN AND SPEAK ENGLISH AND TO OBEY OUR LAWS! NONE OF THAT SHARIAH STUFF! WE HAVE FREEDOM OF RELIGION HERE IN AMERICA, AND ISLAM IS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER TO THAT FREEDOM! SPARE ME YOUR TAQIYYA AND HUDNA! YOU WANT TO BELIEVE MUHAMMAD IS A PROPHET OF GOD? THAT IS YOUR RIGHT, BUT IT IS OUR RIGHT TO DISAGREE WITH YOUR BELIEFS. IT IS NOT YOUR RIGHT TO KILL US FOR DISAGREEING! IF YOU DON'T LIKE OUR LAWS, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO TRY TO CHANGE THEM THROUGH LEGAL AND PEACEFUL MEANS, BUT MANY OF US WILL PEACEFULLY AND RESPECTFULLY (insofar as it is possible) DO OUR UTMOST TO PREVENT YOU FROM SUCCEEDING, IF YOUR GOAL IS CULTURAL AND POLITICAL JIHAD. THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND WE HAVE A HERITAGE OF HONOR, PRIDE AND COURAGE. OUR NATION, MOREOVER, WAS FOUNDED ON CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES! OUR REVERENCE FOR GOD AND HIS CHRIST AND THE HOLY BIBLE IS WHAT ENABLED AMERICA TO BECOME GREATLY BLESSED BY GOD. WE HAVE OUR PROBLEMS; WE ARE NOT PERFECT, BUT WE WILL FIGHT THE POWERS OF DARKNESS AND EVIL, SO HELP US, GOD! THIS IS AMERICA! LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!!!

What I have just read... Is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point, in it's rambling, incoherent response, was it even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone who read this is now dumber for having read it. Who ever came up with this bill may God have mercy on their soul.

Islamaphobia? Xenophobia? Rhetoric? Are you kidding? Absolutely ridiculous, if you look at the FBI statistics the overwhelming majority of hate crimes (56%) are actually against the Jewish community, do you see POTUS or Congress denouncing this? Do you see constant lecturing by our POTUS on this talking about the shameful acts against Jews and Christians abroad, no you don't it's all about one religion, Islam. What a joke, and waste of time, move on.

It is totally stupid for the govt to worry about this. Screams of Islamaphobia are normally as baseless as screams of racism and sexism. Just another way for liberal morons to shut down free speech that they don't like. Islamic terrorists are trained to use our ignorant obsession with political correctness against us. Remember PC stupidity and fear of being called a racist or Islamaphobe prevented people from reporting the suspicious acts of the CA terrorist couple.

Islamaphobic! Give me a break. Gheez, just about everyone has a phobia about one thing or another. America was attacked by extreme Islamic hell bent on destruction and our government since 2009 has done a complete apologetic tour, refusing to even speak the words. I do not suffer from islamaphobia, I am pissed at a CIC who refuses to take the fight to the enemy, either we take them out there or we fight them here. That said, what the government should do is provide the appropriate care to those injured and their families with any and all medical care required to facilitate their injuries.
