house Bill H. Res. 230

Should the U.S. Condemn & Take More Action to Prevent Violence Against Children?

Argument in favor

Children face violence in all forms around the world. This affects their abilities to attend school, go about their day-to-day lives, and achieve positive health outcomes; cumulatively, these issues all affect international development work’s outcomes. The U.S., along with other nations engaged in international development work, should condemn all forms of violence against children and adopt the most best possible strategy to combat this problem.

The world’s children are the world’s future. No need to sacrifice the world’s future by inhibiting their ability to grow up, to be educated and to thrive because they can be exploited by others. Helping to make the worldly a better place is in everyone’s better interest. ... Here come the dentist, got to go.

Yes! And Let's start with this country's president and his administration kidnapping children from immigrants seeking asylum/entry and holding those children indefinitely in cages with inadequate healthcare, education, mental healthcare and plans to reunite those children with the family they were taken from.

Since our current administration has a history of violating international agreements, we should reaffirm out commitment to stopping violence against children of any kind and show that we want to uphold the values of the WHO.

Argument opposed

The Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international agreements already affirm children’s rights, including their rights to live lives free of violence. Since the U.S. is already a signatory to these existing agreements, its condemnation of violence against children is already known, so this non-binding legislation is unnecessary.

We have laws in place to care for children, unless they are in the womb. We murder millions of babies through abortion. Outlaw abortion and make adoption the main option for “unwanted” children!

The utter hypocrisy of this bill is both hilarious and infuriating. The USA government incarcerates more children than anybody else on earth except possibly China. According to their own legal briefs, they’ve “lost” over 1,500 children in their brutal immigration system that takes even babies away from their mothers. They continuously talk about the sacredness of every fetus while waging endless wars, cutting food stamps, school lunches, childcare, school funding, children’s healthcare, the Green New Deal, and anything else that might help a child. The corporate owned lackeys of both parties own their crimes and this pathetic fig leaf does nothing to hide their shame.

Maybe... if this wasn't sponsored by a dem... But since it is, there's a catch in here, somewhere... I've been saying since August on this site that we need to do DNA tests on children immigrants to make sure they are traveling with their parents and not human traffickers, to which the libs are against, so they only pretend to care about children, all while advocating the murder of unborn babies. Obviously they don't care about children... Something stinks here. ADDENDUM: @Hillary: President Trump agrees with you on education. He passed a bill that allows the parents to decide which schools their children attend; it's no longer about predetermined boundaries. This bill will break the cycle of perpetual poverty and slavery to the government in the ghettos of your big, blue cities. I'd wager your fake news didn't cover that, though, there's no way to spin that as racist or sexist.

This is a non binding agreement and I do so dislike those but the more times we can get ImPOTUS’s signature on things saying he stands for the humane treatment of children the more things we will have to hold up to him when he continues to separate families and keeps children from being adopted by lgbtq couples and similar actions.

But we need to start here. The GOP’s concern for children ends at the birth canal. Children isolated in cages, sexually abused by government thugs, cuts in food stamps, Trump’s total neutering of consumer protection ( much of whose job was to expose items dangerous to children), drone attacks against children, cuts in public education budgets, an unviable minimum wage- just some of the ways we abuse. No, we don’t cut off hands. We prefer to let kids be undernourished, abused by “traditional” parents, suffer illnesses stemming from poverty and nontreated for the same reason, and, if they survive and are poor or of color, get tossed into jail at many times the rate of rich white kids. I see why mirrors have been outlawed in Congress.

Wes- people who vote against social programs to help children all ready born are not pro life, they are pro birth. Pro life means ensuring that born children have clean air, food, & water. It means universal health care, publicly funded preK, affordable housing, quality public education in all neighborhoods.

While voting yes for the question, I do not believe the proposal is doing enough to combat violence against children. There are stories of the human trafficking of children by cartels to bring drugs and illegal immigrants into the nation. Violent illegal criminal aliens have been released back into society to continue to harm MORE children. Children in schools are subject physical and emotional harm if the express a contrary opinion. And let’s not get started on the violence against children who are not allowed to be born.

The us congress must do everything to protect children . One of the most dangerous areas is human trafficking of children. This is a worldwide crisis that must end. Also, we need stricter prison sentences for pedaphiles, other child abusers.

There is no rational reason to oppose this, and securing this recognition means we keep holding the government responsible for upholding these agreements.

Absolutely! And take steps to reduce/eliminate violence against children at home. And stop supplying countries, like Saudi Arabia, Israel, India, etc., with weapons and military assistance that allows them to wage war on their own or occupied people.

So sick of you pro lifers who immediately make this a political issue about abortion and the children get lost in the drone. You think you are so righteous in your treatment of children? Look at who makes all the cheap crap you buy at Walmart. Many of that work force is mere children.

As Linda said, we need to start with our own children. Both those who are living on the streets, in cars, etc., and those we are still holding in our own concentration camps, immigrant children. A Judge ordered months ago that they should be released. What happened with that, I’d like to know.

Need to start here at home first and foremost with the cruelty of the Trumpf* administration separating immigrant children from their asylum seeking parents. Will the children ever be reunited? We certainly aren't leading by example.

That’s up to the states and local authorities to enforce! However with all this Human Trafficking? Most of it is young teen girls being kidnapped and being forced into prostitution? Many across state lines! That should carry the death penalty as well as raping and then even killing a child or teen which is still a child! Mandatory Death Penalty under Federal Law!
